Zenless Zone Zero: Should You Skip 1.0 Characters For The 1.1 Lineup?

To skip or not to skip?

Hoyoverse’s latest gacha game Zenless Zone Zero is set to release on the 4th of July. Like most gacha games out there, Zenless Zone Zero follows a Banner system in which players can spend in-game tokens to pull characters.

The game will launch on its 1.0 version, and 2 new S-rank characters will join the roster during 1.0. You can spend your resources all throughout 1.0 to try and pull the new characters. Alternatively, you can also save your pulls for the game’s next big update and new character releases.

Characters Releasing in 1.0 & 1.1

1.0 Releases

The 2 new S-rank characters joining the roster in 1.0 are:

  • Ellen Joe (Phase 1)
    • Ice type main DPS character
  • Zhu Yuan (Phase 2)
    • Ether type main DPS character

The character releases are divided into 2 phases. Ellen Joe’s Banner will be released in Phase 1, and Phase 1 releases with the full game’s release on the 4th of July. Zhu Yuan’s Banner will come out 3 weeks later on the 24th of July.

You can pull both Ellen Joe and Zhu Yuan from their respective Banners. Ellen Joe can be pulled as soon as the game launches, while for Zhu Yuan, you will need to wait 3 weeks for the release of Phase 2.

1.1 Releases

Like 1.0, we can expect 1.1 to also get 2 S-rank character releases. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the S-rank characters are yet. The exact date for 1.1 hasn’t been announced yet, but we can expect it to be released somewhere in mid-August.

Lucy, an A-rank character set to release in 1.1

While there isn’t much info on the S-rank characters, 2 new A-rank characters have been officially announced, and they will join the roster in 1.1.

  • Lucy
    • Fire-type support that can buff the damage of your whole team
  • Piper
    • Physical Anomaly character. Dealing successive physical damage with her will increase the damage taken by enemies.

A-rank characters aren’t as strong as S-rank ones, but they are much easier to pull from Banners. Additionally, you are guaranteed 1 A-rank character every 10 pulls, while for S-rank, you are guaranteed 1 every 90 pulls.

When Should You Use Your Pulls?

Both the S-rank characters coming out in 1.0 are pretty good DPS options. They give you good damage output, and their damage type is also pretty unique right now as there are no other Ice or Ether main DPS characters in the game right now.

That said, it’s pretty common for characters released in early patches to be weaker than those released later. Given that 1.0 is the games release patch, there’s a good chance that the characters released in 1.1 are significantly better than the 1.0 characters. So if you are concerned with having the strongest characters possible, waiting for 1.1 to use your pulls might be the way to go.

While saving for meta characters will help you make your team stronger, you should always use pulls for characters that you personally like. That will generally make the game more enjoyable for you, and keep you interested in it for a longer time.
