One of the biggest surprises of 2023 was Dave the Diver, a cozy RPG about deep-sea exploration, fishing, and restaurant management.
In case you didn’t know or weren’t paying attention, this game was huge, and it’s still a very beloved indie game for many content creators.
Well, now you can remove the coziness factor from this game thanks to the free Dredge DLC.
The content features various new upgrades and some of them are considered mandatory for some. Here’s a quick list of these must-have upgrades in Dave the Diver’s new Dredge DLC.
Must-Have Upgrades in Dave the Dive – Dredge
Fishing the new aberrant fish won’t be an easy task; almost all of them are violent and tanky, and some have special abilities that make them invisible before being hit.
Before attempting to catch any of the new fish, you must have some upgrades to be able to put up a fight and not drown before exploring.
Otto’s Farm – Chicken Farm Upgrade
To enjoy the DLC, you need to unlock Otto’s Farm and have the Chicken Coop Upgrade. You’ll first meet Otto on the first evening of chapter 2.
He will be drinking on Bancho Sushi and will ask for a specific dish. After the quest is complete, you will unlock the fish farm and, eventually, the rice and vegetable farm.
Now, to unlock the Chicken Farm, you need to complete the vegetarian sushi side quest from MC Sammy. After preparing and serving the dish, Otto will appear and reveal crucial information about him and Sammy.
This will eventually lead to him moving full-time to the vegetable farm to raise chickens. Now, to access the DLC, you need to reach this point in the game. Before this, you won’t be able to see the “Thick Fog” weather.
Super Alloy Harpoon Gun with the Shock Harpoon Tip
The last harpoon upgrade might be seen as a late-game achievement. But, we highly recommend you have it before diving into the Blue Hole. The upgrade cost is 9,700 gold.
Power Drain Gun
You can only go to the Blue Hole during the “Thick Fog” weather nights. Once you go to the surface, you won’t be able to dive or dredge. With this new gun, you can drain life from the fish and change it to oxygen, which will allow you to dive for more time and to fish more aberrations.
Grenade Launcher III
There’s one specific fish called “Bony Wreckfish” that can only be hurt by the grenade launcher. Maybe getting this upgrade just for one fish seems unnecessary, but if you are diving and this bad boy sees you, you will need it. It costs 2,00 gold, and you need 10 opal ores and 55 fragments.
Death Sniper Rifle
Probably the most badass weapon in the whole game, you can’t go wrong with this one. No matter what Cthulhu-like creature you might face while dredging, you will murder it in a blink. You need 5,500 gold, 1 Opal Tube, 1 Helicoprion Sawblade, and 25 Topaz.
High-Grade Baits and Crab Traps
As a bonus, and if you want to get the most out of your dives, you should dive with level 3 Crab Traps and rank 9 Bait.
You can only go to the Blue Hole once or twice per week if you are lucky. This means that to capture all the lobster and crabs in the DLC, you should always set the traps when you have the opportunity.
Dredge and Dave the Diver are both gems and with this DLC, you can get the best out of both. You can drive the boat and go dredging at night, just like in Dredge, to collect special items, and you can dive to face some horrifying creatures.
While this doesn’t sound very cozy, it adds a new layer to the game, making it even more fun. Also, you can drive the boat, like in Dredge; isn’t that super cool?
