You’ll meet many companions throughout your journeys in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, with the Tech Priest Pasqal being one of them.
A popular build for Pasqal is the “Plasma Lord” build, which takes advantage of his innate affinity for plasma weapons. It also allows him to make use of game-changing buffs and debuffs!
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to make use of this powerful Pasqal build.
Pasqal Plasma Lord Build for Rogue Trader
The Plasma Lord build for Pasqal focuses on using powerful plasma weapons to deal damage and gain extra turns. It makes full use of Pasqal’s unique Filtering Protocols talent!
On top of that, you’ll get to use powerful buffs and debuffs that make the most out of Pasqal’s Operative archetype.
All in all, the Plasma Lord build turns Pasqal into someone who can truly dominate the battlefield in every way possible!
One of the basics of this build is that you want to level up Intelligence every single time you get the choice to. There’s no need to increase other stats until you max it out.
As for skills, you should make sure to level up Tech Use, especially if you’re playing on higher difficulties.
The gist of this build’s playstyle is that Pasqal will get a lot of AP by shooting enemies with Plasma guns. Then he can either spend those AP to buff his entire party and debuff all enemies, or to keep firing away.
It’s a very versatile and very powerful build, hence the title of Plasma Lord!
Now, let’s go over what to pick at each level up to 40.
Levels 5 to 15: Operative Talents
Pasqal should start at Level 4 when he joins your party, including his first proper talent, Passive Learning. As such, we’ll start from level 5 for the build.
Level 5 – Intelligence +5 and Base Skill: Tech Use.
Level 6 – Uncanny Sight and Intelligence +5.
Level 7 – Joint Analysis and Tech-Use +10.
Level 8 – Get Filtering Protocols now, which will be your bread and butter for this build. Also, get Pinnacle of Weaponry.
Level 9 – Dismantling Attack (Upgrade II) and Logic +10.
Level 10 – Logic +10 and Ballistic Skill +5.
Level 11 – Aiming Protocols and Lore (Xenos) or Medicae.
Level 12 – Tactical Knowledge and It Will Not Die.
Level 13 – Tide of Excellence for now, but choose Overcharge Protocols once it gets fixed. Also, choose Ballistic Skill +5.
Level 14 – Perception +5 and Plasma Weapon Expert.
Level 15 – Dismantling Attack (Upgrade I).
Levels 16 to 36: Grand Strategist Talents
Pasqal’s second archetype for this build is the Grand Strategist. It’s an archetype fully focused on buffs and debuffs, so it plays most to his strengths! It also allows him to act first every time.
Your progression as a Grand Strategist should look something like this:
Level 16 – Combat Tactics, which you get automatically when choosing the archetype.
Level 17 – Combat Locus Stratagem if you want to focus on offense or Stronghold Stratagem if you want to focus on defense.
Level 18 – Diversion Zone.
Level 19 – Take and Hold.
Level 20 – AP Increase and Intelligence +5.
Level 21 – Improvised Strategy.
Level 22 – Pick the Stratagem ability you didn’t pick at Level 17. So choose Stronghold if you chose Combat Locus, or Combat Locus if you chose Stronghold.
Level 23 – Tech-Use +10 and Sniping Zone.
Level 24 – Ballistic Skill +5 and Characteristic Training: Intelligence.
Level 25 – Strategic Offensive.
Level 26 – Ballistic Skill +5 and Tech-Use +10.
Level 27 – Choose any Take and Hold upgrade you wish.
Level 28 – Blurred Locus and Perception +5.
Level 29 – Perception +5 andTech-Use +10.
Level 30 – Killzone Stratagem.
Level 31 – Personal Zone and Advanced Skill: Tech-Use.
Level 32 – Logic +10 and Perception +5.
Level 33 – Weapon Skill +5 and Point of Interest.
Level 34 – Base Skill: Logic.
Level 35 – Choose any Take and Hold upgrade you wish.
Exemplar Pasqal & Equipment to Use
At Level 36, you’ll get to choose the Exemplar archetype. It has some new talents, but you’ll be primarily choosing leftovers from the Operative and Grand Strategist archetypes.
Nonetheless, we’ll follow this progression:
Level 36 – Extermination and Improved Tactics.
Level 37 – Tech-Use +10 and Machine Spirit Scan Protocols.
Level 38 – Intelligence +5 then choose either Base Skill: Lore (Xenos), Charasteristic Training: Perception, or Charasteristic Training: Ballistic Skill. Whichever you prefer works.
Level 39 – Perfect Spot and Tech-Use +10.
Level 40 – Cataclysm and Overcharge Protocols if you haven’t picked it yet. Otherwise, choose Advanced Skill: Logic.
With the build firmly in place now, we should go over what type of equipment you should focus on. Truth be told, though, it’s very easy to pick out gear for him at this point.
Use any equipment you find that boosts Tech-Use and Plasma Weapon damage, such as the Plasmashaper Gloves.
Also, make sure to equip Medium armor on him for the best balance of defense and dodge.
Any equipment that boosts his archetype abilities is also a must-have, such as the Arch-Strategist’s Mantle.
Skirmisher Boots are also good the entire playthrough, as they allow Pasqal to regenerate MP whenever he deals damage.
When it comes to weapons, you can honestly use anything for your melee weapon. It doesn’t really matter for the build, because your focus will be plasma guns.
Which, on that note, you’ll want to use any plasma weapons you can get your hands on!
At first, you’ll only get the basic Plasma Pistol, but you switch to the [Mezoa-Pattern] Plasma Gun or the Heavy Plasma Gun when they become available.
Anyway, your Pasqal should now be ready to take on any challenge with ease! He’s a real Plasma Lord now.
