Just like other Zelda games, Tears of Kingdom highlights Link’s health through the health containers that you can find in the upper left corner of your screen.

You start out with three hearts at the start of the game, making you pretty weak when facing multiple enemies as survival will be much harder.

However, as you progress through the game, you’ll be able to gain the ability to upgrade health as well as stamina.

This guide will show you how to upgrade them.

Luckily, you can unlock the ability to upgrade health pretty early on in the game. You’ll gain it after completing Great Sky Island which basically serves as the game’s tutorial area.

Throughout your adventure in the area, you’ll be able to come across a handful of shrines. Make sure to clear every shrine you encounter to receive a Light of Blessing at the end.

Each shrine will guarantee a Light of Blessing once you cleared it.

Once you have gathered four Light of Blessing, you then need to look for a Goddess Statue.

Every major settlement will have one, with the earliest example within the Emergency Shelter in Central Hyrule.

The statue will give you the option to upgrade either your Heart Container or your Stamina Vessel. For the purpose of this tutorial, choose the Heart Container option.

As long as you have four Lights of Blessing, you should be able to upgrade your health and add increase the number of your Heart Containers by one.

Do keep in mind that the maximum number of heart containers you can get is 40. However, this can be quite challenging as it means collecting a ton of Lights of Blessing.

You can do the same to your Stamina Vessel to make Link even stronger and more resilient.
