Taming geckos will require you to make and use a Gecko Treat. You don’t have the recipe for it from the start, however, you will need to complete a quest first.

Speak with Skadi on the southern part of the western island. You can see the exact location in the image below.

Skadi will task you with killing a Rhino Beetle. Make sure you’re well prepared, it’s a tough boss bug!

Once you take down the mighty Rhino Beetle, pick up the Rhino Split Horn it drops. Bring it back to Skadi to complete the quest.

As your reward, Skadi will give you the recipe for Gecko Treats! Now, you need to work toward crafting at least one of these treats.

To make treats you will need to use a Cauldron, so build one if you don’t have it already. You will also need a Stonecutter since the recipe requires Seed Oil, which has to be refined from Seeds.

Once you have a Gecko Treat in your inventory, explore the world until you find a wild gecko. They frequent the swamps and shores of the game’s world.

Attack the gecko and bring down its HP to under 50%. With its health low, the prompt to tame it will appear. Press the button shown on the screen to use the treat you made and tame the gecko!

That’s all there is to it, you now have your very own gecko. You can ride the gecko as a mount and it will even scale up walls and other steep surfaces.
