After buying units in one of your cities, they will form an army. This army can be moved on the world map, and once two armies will occupy the same space at the same time, you’ll be able to merge them.

Now, you should notice a purple arrow next to the army’s name. Click it to open the army screen of both armies, allowing you to move each unit between them.

You can use the left mouse button to move individual units between armies, or press one of the arrows to transport all the units from one army to the other.

If you’ll deplete one army of all units, it’ll disappear from the world map. But, you can also use the arrow button on the right side of your existing army to split the army into two, allowing you to manually decide what units will each of the armies consist of.

As you’ve probably noticed, the soldiers of one type always stack into one unit. But, you can also split a unit into multiple ones, by holding the shift button and left-clicking on it. This can have a lot of tactical applications. For example, a few units of infantry can form a line covering the archers on the back of the battlefield.
