If you’re wondering which is the best Vault Hunter to pick in Borderlands 4, our tier list should help! We’ll rank all of the 4 Vault Hunters from best to worst, giving you a quick rundown of each character’s strengths and weaknesses. Mind you, all of them are extremely strong this time around. But some are just stronger than others. That’s how it always is, isn’t it?
Tier List – Every Vault Hunter From Best to Worst | Borderlands 4
#1 – Rafa the Exo-Soldier (S Tier)

We’re placing Rafa as our best character for two reasons: he’s both simple to play and extremely effective in nearly all situations. All of his Action Skills are capable of dishing out great damage, particularly the Peacebreaker Cannons. Not to mention, using an Action Skill both improves his mobility and damage thanks to his Overdrive Trait! This can even be improved to give him more defenses, later on.
Fitting his high damage and overall versatility, Rafa is also the best at keeping his ammo supply full at all times. Combine that with his mobility and he becomes a fairly low-risk Vault Hunter that’s ideal for beginners in both multiplayer and solo play.
If you just want someone who’s strong in nearly every situation and is pretty easy to play, Rafa’s your guy. His main weakness is that he might be a bit too simple for some players to really enjoy playing and he does lack some crowd control ability.
#2 – Vex the Siren (S Tier)

Vex, unlike most other Sirens in the series, somewhat plays a bit more like FL4K from Borderlands 3 than anything. Her main power is her ability to summon minions to help her in combat. The minions are particularly useful if you’re playing solo, but they’re quite strong in multiplayer too! They help keep enemies’ attention away from Vex herself, while also allowing her to overpower enemies.
Even better, Vex is super adaptable thanks to her Phase Covenant Trait. This converts all of her abilities, such as the Action Skill, to the same elemental type as her current weapon! Thanks to that, she can always make the most of whatever is the optimal elemental type in combat.
Vex is great in pretty much every situation, making her definitely one of the strongest Vault Hunters. Her main downside is that she does require some careful resource management with her minions.
#3 – Harlowe the Gravitar (A Tier)

Harlowe is a bit of an interesting one, as she somewhat plays more like a defensive and supportive character. If we had to compare, we would say she’s closer to Borderlands 2’s Maya than anything. This is thanks to her Entanglement Trait, which Entangles enemies whenever Harlowe uses an Action Skill. As you can imagine, this is fantastic for crowd control and for minimizing the actions of stronger foes!
On top of that, Harlowe is also capable of blasting foes with Cryo and Radiation elements. These are two support-oriented elements, as their effects mainly help weaken foes. Similarly, in keeping with the more support-oriented playstyle, Harlow is also capable of buffing her allies. Basically, she empowers the whole team, including herself!
That said, this support-oriented playstyle does make Harlowe a somewhat meh choice for solo players. Of course, she’s still strong enough to be valid and viable in solo! But, honestly, she mostly shines in multiplayer, so keep that in mind if you want to play her.
#4 – Amon the Forgeknight (B Tier)

Coming in last, we have Amon. Mind you, his placement here does not mean he’s bad, as none of the Borderlands 4 Vault Hunters are particularly weak! It’s just that he’s a bit harder to fully make use of than the others.
One of the things that makes Amon harder to play is his Forgeskill Trait. This trait gives him different abilities depending on which Action Skill he currently has equipped. These are meant to work in tandem with his Action Skill, which does mean you need to carefully manage when to use your abilities. You’ll want to go for combos of abilities instead of using them on their own.
Aside from that, Amon is also a bit slower and a lot bigger than the other Vault Hunters. He has the stats to back up that size, however! Amon looks like a tank, and he’s certainly built like one, too. If you pick him, you’ll likely find yourself easily surviving encounters that would obliterate the other Vault Hunters.
Ultimately, though, Amon’s main downside is just that he’s harder to be optimal with. Compared to Rafa and Vex, he can feel clunky until you get used to his unique quirks. Nonetheless, he does reward those who are willing to put in the time and effort!
