Pheasants are one of the easiest small game animals that you can hunt in Way of the Hunter. This makes them quite a popular target for beginners and even experienced players looking to complete certain challenges, collect trophies, or just want to earn quick cash.

Moreover, hunting Pheasants is the main objective in order to complete the General Tso’s Pheasant mission. That said, if you don’t know where to find pheasants in the game, this guide is for you.

Where to Hunt Pheasants in Way of the Hunter

If you’re grinding the General Tso’s Pheasant order or just want easy XP with something small and fun to shoot, pheasants are one of the first animals you’ll learn in the game.

They do have specific habitat zones instead of being completely random, so hunting them should be relatively easy as long as you know the location.

So, where do Pheasants actually spawn?

Pheasants are grassland birds, which means they don’t spawn in deep forests or mountains. Instead, you’ll find them roaming open grassy regions where tall grass meets brush and fields.

They spawn in multiple maps, including Nez Perce Valley, Transylvania, Matariki Park, and Lintukoto Reserve, and Elkcrest Island.

That said, pheasants have feeding and resting times mapped out in the game’s data. They generally feed in waves, so if you’re not finding them, jump the clock forward a couple hours within 06:00 to 10:00, 12:00 to 16:00, or 18:00 to 20:00 and check the grasslands again.

Best Spots for Pheasant Spawns

It’s worth noting that the game uses “need zones” inside grasslands where birds will appear if you’re in the right biome at the right time.

Some of the busiest pheasant turf includes:

  • Nez Perce Valley
  • The open fields around the Bear Den Ranch in Cottonwood
  • The grasslands west of Rivermouth where fields open up toward water

You can also spot them occasionally near landmarks in those open zones like abandoned towers or downhill fields from cabins.

Pheasants behave a lot like real game birds. They walk on the ground and only fly when spooked, and they have decent eyesight so noisy approaches or running will send them running (or flying) away.

Since they’re easy to kill, I would recommend using low-caliber ammunition with a high velocity to make quick work of them.

If you have the Matariki Park DLC, pheasants spawn there too and follow the same grassland pattern. Simply look for grassy plains or fields in that map’s regions.
