The Blood Moon is one of the many events that can happen in Terraria.
This event mostly occurs at random, but you can also summon it if you want. Plus there are some ways to work around it and cancel it out!
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything that causes Blood Moons and how to skip them.
How to Summon and Avoid Blood Moons in Terraria
Blood Moons are primarily a randomly occurring event. You don’t really need to summon them, but some conditions must be met for them to happen.
First, you should have 120 max Health. This will require you to find and consume at least one Life Crystal which can be randomly found underground.
Once you have 120 or more max Health, Blood Moons have an 11.11% chance to occur every night as long as there isn’t a New Moon.
The game will notify you when this is about to happen, so make good use of your time and prepare!
Additionally, you can summon it yourself by using a Bloody Tear which is only dropped by enemies when the Blood Moon is already in effect.
The Blood Moon will make everything appear red and will also cause lots of powerful enemies to spawn. These enemies can even open doors, so staying indoors isn’t as safe as usual either!
Sadly, there’s no way to straight up skip the Blood Moon, but there are a few ways to survive it and cancel it.
To survive it, we recommend staying underground. The Blood Moon will mostly affect overworld enemies, so staying underground is safer.
Alternatively, you can make buildings safer by simply placing blocks behind the doors. This should prevent enemies from opening them.
Lastly, you can override the Blood Moon by summoning a Frost Moon with a Naughty Present, or by summoning a Pumpkin Moon with a Pumpkin Moon Medallion.
These are only available during Hardmode, however, so keep that in mind!
