As with most RPGs, you’ll find a bunch of unidentified items during your playthrough in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

Obviously, you need to identify them first in other to reveal their stats so you can benefit from those stats.

The catch is that item identification in the game is different than in other games.

In this guide, we’ll look at the game’s item identification mechanic so you can start identifying your unidentified loot.

If you’re a masochist like me, you’d probably prefer playing solo in Pathfinder WOTR. This is a completely viable strategy, albeit one that’s way more challenging compared to having a party with you.

That said, it also means that you might not be able to identify items right away if you’re playing solo. The reason is that in order to identify items, you need to have points in the Knowledge Arcana skill.

Unlike in other games where you use an identification scroll or any similar item to identify an item, Pathfinder does it for you automatically. However, that’s only if you have enough points in the Knowledge Arcana skill.

Without any point investment into the skill, you’ll be left with two options:

  • Trade with any vendor who will automatically identify all of your items for free
  • Look for a party member with enough Knowledge Arcana points.

This applies if your character is not an Arcane user and has less than 3 points invested in Knowledge Arcana.

As far as I know, the earliest party member with enough Knowledge Arcana skill is Ember who you’ll find in the Market Square. Just make sure to ask her to join your party.

With her in your party, any unidentified item that you loot will be automatically identified.

This also applies to unidentified items you transfer from your stash to your inventory. However, some items will require a higher Knowledge Arcana rank to identify.

This means you’ll have to invest in the skill if you’re playing solo or level up Ember so she can automatically identify items for you.
