Potions play an integral role in your Hogwarts Legacy playthrough. Not only will they allow you to heal when wounded, but some also come with special effects that you might want to explore.
That said, the game won’t really tell you how exactly you can equip your potions, nor it will teach you how to switch between them.
This can be a great game-changer, especially if you find yourself needing to use a certain potion in the middle of combat. Don’t worry, as we got you covered in this guide.
Using and Swapping Potions in Hogwarts Legacy

The good news is, you can actually use potions in and out of combat. But to do that, you should first equip them by assigning them to your equip slot.
You will be able to assign all sorts of potions to your equip slot. All except for the Wiggenweld potion which is always assigned to the bottom part so you can easily use it to restore your health during combat.
To equip potions, you should press and hold the hotkey for the Tool Wheel (this will depend on which platform you’re playing in). That would be the L1 button on PlayStation, LB button on Xbox, and Tab on PC.

After that, simply select which potion you want to equip then let go of the button. It should then assign that potion to your equip slot.
With the potion assigned to your equip slot, all you need to do is press the same hotkey to use it. However, you don’t have to hold it this time – just tap it.
That said, enemies will be able to interrupt you when you’re drinking a potion, so make sure to keep this in mind.
Also, one thing to note is that you will be able to use more than one potion at a time. This allows you to benefit from various potion effects at the same time.
