There are lots of builds you can try in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty depending on your playstyle. While it’s not as complex as that of the Nioh series, it’s still robust enough.

That said, as you reach the endgame, you’ll need the ultimate character build to take on tougher enemies. This guide will teach you how to achieve that.

Virtues

You will have five different virtues you can upgrade as you level up. These are basically your character stats namely Wood, Fire, Metal, Earth, and Water virtues.

Each virtue has its own unique characteristics. You can upgrade or level them up as you progress through the game. Let’s have a look at each of them:

Wood Virtue

The Wood Virtue affects your spell duration, Spirit Defense gauge, and Earth resistance. The more points you allocate to it, the more HP you can have, allowing you to take more damage than normal.

It also grants you access to spells that either summon thorns from the ground or call bolts of lightning.

Fire Virtue

The Fire Virtue encourages you to attack more as the more you attack, the quicker your spirit gauge fills up. This, in turn, helps enhance your charged attacks.

It also reduces the spirit consumption of your Martial Arts, allowing you to spam them easily.

Since almost all of the weapons in the game use martial arts, focusing on leveling up this virtue can help you greatly.

Earth Virtue

The Earth virtue is all about defensive play. It focuses on your deflecting game, Water resistance, and overall maximum equipment weight.

The more you deflect enemy attacks successfully, the faster your spirit gauge will fill up. The main focus of this virtue is helping your character out in defense.

While heavy armor helps deflect most of the attacks, if you do not own heavy armor, this virtue helps you gain more spirit points toward your Spirit gauge.

Metal Virtue

If you are building your character more toward a sorcerer build, then you can focus on leveling up your Metal virtue.

Casting spells will drain your Spirit gauge faster than you’d expect. Having high Metal virtue eases that situation as you can use more spells without the fear of running your character’s Spirit gauge into the ground.

It’s also helpful in sustaining your Spirit, but it only works if your Spirit gauge is at the highest level and your bar is in the blue section of the gauge.

Water Virtue

The Water Virtue helps with your Stealth game, Ranged attack power, spirit consumption rate of your deflects, and Fire resistance.

Aside from making you more stealthy, it also helps boost your Spirit gauge when you successfully deflect enemy attacks. However, if you keep spamming the deflect button, you will end up emptying your Spirit gauge quicker than expected.

Still, it is one of the better virtues to build your character around as most of the weapons that you can use are further enhanced with the help of the Water virtue.

Wizarding Spells

You can equip up to four Wizarding spells at a time. But to do so, you must first learn them by leveling up their associated virtue. Like the virtues, you can upgrade the wizarding spells as you progress through the game.

Weapons

In Wo Long, your character can equip two melees and two ranged weapons. Melee weapons are categorized into the following:

  • Swords
  • Spears
  • Sabres
  • Hammers
  • Halberds

Meanwhile, ranged weapons are categorized into bows and crossbows. Ranged attacks are best used sparingly as you can only bring a limited amount of arrows every time you rest.

Use it when necessary, or else you will empty your stock in no time. You can also upgrade both melee and ranged weapons to make them even stronger.

Armor

Your character will get full body armor in the game. You will get chest, body, leg, and arm armor. You can also upgrade your armor to increase your overall defenses.

Besides, you can also find armor sets throughout your playthrough. Here are some of the best ones:

  • Rampancy Set – This armor set will help you against the Metal element and help deflect strikes to gain more spirit and inflict more damage if combined with martial arts.
  • Dread Star of Hejian Set – This unique-looking armor protects you against the Earth’s elements but not much else. Your character will take considerably fewer hits from enemies while providing you with Spirit gains with each successful deflection.
  • The Leader of the Lords Set – This set massively boosts your Spirit defense and Water resistance. It also increases the effectiveness of your melee attacks.
  • Unscrupulous Hero Set – This set helps protect your character from Fire attacks. As an additional perk, it helps slow down enemies after using Martial Arts, and it also increases your Sword spirit damage!
  • Vicious Tiger Set – Arguably the most attractive set, Vicious Tiger Set helps resist metal element attacks. You can gain a considerable amount of spirit points by deflecting enemy attacks successfully.
