Windrose does not use a traditional sell-to-anyone marketplace system. Every item you pick up is tied to a specific faction and can only be sold to that faction’s buyer NPC. The Smugglers are one of those factions and they deal in high value contraband and rare relics, making them one of the more profitable groups to trade with once you unlock them.

The problem is that finding the Smugglers is not obvious at all. The game does not put a marker on your map pointing you to them. Which makes a lot of players end up sitting on a full inventory with no idea where to offload it. In this guide I will show you exactly how to find them so you can start cashing in.

How to Unlock Smugglers For Selling Items

Most of the early game items you find can be sold to Smugglers. However, you need to unlock them first by completing a specific questline that leads you to them. I cannot give you an exact location since the world is procedurally generated, meaning your map will be different from mine.

So here is what you need to do. Follow the main storyline until you reach Tortuga. Once you are in Tortuga, look for a questline called Underground Network. Complete that questline and you will unlock access to a Smuggler. At that point, you should be able to sell most of your unwanted items for a decent price. This is your best way to clear out inventory space and make some early currency at the same time.

That’s It

Once the Underground Network questline is done, the Smugglers are unlocked and ready to buy your early game loot. They are one of the better factions to trade with since they take most of the random items you find and pay well for contraband and relics. Make it a habit to visit them after each run so you are not dragging a full inventory around for no reason.
