The Last of Us Part 2: How to Open All Safes & Doors 

Throughout your journey in the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us Part 2, you will come across various safes and doors.

If you manage to open the safes and doors, you will be welcomed with some useful supplies to aid you on your journey. Some are also essential to the game.

Finding all of these may be tricky. Even if you do find them, their code combinations may elude you.

To help you avoid that frustrating play experience, we’ve assembled this guide where we will cover the locations of all safes and doors found within the story mode, as well as how to find the combinations needed to open them.

How to Open All Safes and Doors

All the safes and doors in The Last of Us Part 2 are opened using a certain combination. Some of these can be very puzzle-like, and require a bit of searching to find the code. Luckily for you, we have listed all the codes in this guide.

We have ordered the safes and doors based on the chapter they are in. There are a total of 14 safes and 3 doors in the game that are opened using a code.

Safe 1 – Chapter 4: The Patrol

After you wear your mask and enter the contaminated area, you will have a door on your right. Open the door to find your first safe.

To find the combination, inspect the note beside the safe and then go to the nearby billboard just outside the room where you will find the picture of a dog.

Above the picture, there’s a date, July 2013. This gives you the combination 07 20 13. Enter it to collect the hidden supplies within the safe.

Door 1 – Chapter 8: The Gate

To progress the story, you will need to open the main gate to let Dina in. In one of the military compartments, you will come across a note in an open drawer that holds the code you will need to open the main gate. The code is 05 12.

Safes 2,3,4 and Door 2 – Chapter 9: Downtown

In this chapter, there are a total of 3 safes and 1 door.

The first one can be found in the bank, which is indicated on the bottom left-hand side of your map. Here you will see a bank vault safe with a giant door. In Front of the door you will see a bag lying on the floor. Inside the bag, you will find the code 60 23 06.

The second safe can be found in the courthouse, which is indicated on the top left-hand side of your map. You will need to go here for the main story. Go downstairs and enter the office on your left by breaking the window. Here you will see a whiteboard with the code clearly written on it. Enter the code, 86 07 22, to open the safe under the broken window.

To find the third safe of this chapter, Go to Madison street where you will find Gate West 2. Enter the gate and you will have the safe on your right tucked away in the corner. The code can be found in the Checkpoint Gate Codes note which also holds the code for the main gate in the last chapter. The code you need is the 04 51, allocated to West 2.

You can then also use this note to open Gate East 2, which is marked as the F*** Fedra Gate on your map. The code combination is 53 45.

Safe 5 – Chapter 11: Notting Hill

The thrift store, near the traps and the fighting gym, is the location of your next safe. Open the white door in the corner of the store. Inside you will see a red soda vending machine and on your right there’s a bulletin board with a note.

The note tells you that the last 6 digits of Stacy’s phone number is the code to a safe. You can find her phone number written on the toilet wall, which will reveal the code as 55 01 33. You can find the safe on the side opposite the bulletin board.

Door 3 – Chapter 13: The Tunnels

In the tunnels, you will come across a locker room locked behind a coded door. To find the code, smash the vending on the left of the locker room door. You can then inspect the soda can with the note taped on it.

You will find the first 3 digits of the code on the note taped to the soda can. The whole combination you need to enter is 15243.

Safe 6 – Chapter 16: Hillcrest

Go through the Velvet store and explore its backdoors to find a storage room blocked by a large container. Move the container aside to open the door, but be careful as there are multiple infected inside.

Take down the infected and then focus on the safe inside. To find the code, go to the nearby restaurant and bar, which also has snooker tables lying around. In the kitchen you will find a note taped to the wall right as you enter. This note tells you the code directly: 30 82 65.

Safes 7 and 8 – Chapter 18: The Seraphites

The next safe can be found in an apartment bedroom. Soon after leaving the theater,  you can find a building with a white truck parked in front of its entrance. Climb the truck and jump onto the metal platforms to reach the apartment on the second floor.

You will find a note on the table which tells us that the code is the same as the couple’s wedding date 30 years ago. Go to the calendar and you will see that their wedding anniversary was on 08/10/83, meaning their wedding date was 08/10/83. The code is therefore 08 10 83.

Another safe can be found in this chapter and this one is located in Weston’s Pharmacy. You can first inspect the note, which has the combination of the safe written on it, next to the cash register. Go to the opening in the damaged wall, and crawl through it to reach the safe. You can use the code 38 55 23 to then open the safe.

Safe 9 – Chapter 21: The Flooded City

Once you reach the thin metal gate, which you have to manually open, leave the boat and go up the stairs. There you will reach a dead end with a dead person and a note lying on the floor.

The note contains the code of the next safe. On the opposite side, there is a container at the end. Move the container aside, crawl under the debris, and jump down to reach the next safe. Enter the code from the note, 70 12 64, so you can access the loot.

Safe 10 – Chapter 25: On Foot

As you leave the building with the ship and progress to the train carts, you will find a cracked opening in a wall to your right-hand side just before the train carts. Go through the opening and you will find a safe.

To find the combination though, you will have to enter the trailer which is just outside the room with the safe. Inspect the note in the trailer, to be given a clue that will lead you to the small bulletin board. A note on the board highlights the code, which is 17 38 07.

Safe 11 – Chapter 28: Hostile Territory

Go to the wall with the large dragon mural and immediately on your left-hand side, there is a small shop called Jasmine Bakery. Break in through the windows to find the next safe.

To find the code, go to the shop right next to the bakery and move up along the stairs. Then jump to the building on the opposite side, which is on the second floor. There you will find a note on some boxes, which gives you the code. The code is 68 96 89.

Safe 12 – Chapter 31: The Coast

As you move along the eerie ship with the infected and dead bodies. You will find a crossbow on a dead body as you enter a hall. At the end of the hall, you will find a note which gives you the combination of a safe.

The safe can be found on the top of the ship in the steering room. The code is 90 77 01.

Safe 13 – Chapter 33: The Shortcut

As you reach the end of the broken bridge, facing the waterfall. Jump onto the apartment on your left. Here you will find a note that will give you a hint regarding the combination of a safe.

The combination is Sam’s apartment number, and then that of Julia. Julia lives right next to Sam. Her number is 304, while Sam’s is 302. Therefore the code to the safe is 30 23 04, which is in Sam’s apartment.

Safe 14 – Chapter 34: The Descent

The last safe can be found in the hotel gym. A note in the Orchards juice bar will tell you that the code of the safe is the same as the wifi password. The wifi password can be found in the gym or the fitness area. The code is 12 18 79.

The safe can be found right in front of the main desk, in a  room in the corner of the hotel.
