The remake of the legendary Harvest Moon is about to come back to Nintendo Switch. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is about to give you the nostalgia of friendship, family, and farming once it gets released on June 27, 2023.

Given that friendships are also an essential part of the game, it just means that having a romantic relationship with the bachelors and bachelorettes is also a thing.

However, you must first work out your friendship level. Here’s a complete guide on how you can do that and take it to the marriage level.

You will be able to befriend other NPCs and even increase your friendship levels with them. There are different ways to increase your friendship levels, but in this guide, we are going to focus on gift-giving.

Once you have reached eight hearts on your friendship level, you can propose to a character that you like.

You can then give that character a blue feather that you can receive from the Harvest Sprites on the first day of summer.

What’s more fun here is that there are eight characters that you can choose to date and marry. You can choose anyone from them regardless of your gender.

There are two important things that you have to consider when making friends.

The first one is the friendship bar and the hearts. Once you try to romance any of them, these two will start raising.

However, you’ll notice that each character starts at a different friendship level. This means that some of them will be a lot more difficult to romance than the other characters.

To increase your heart faster, you must maintain a high friendship bar with each other.

One way to increase your friendship level is by talking to the villager each day and giving them gifts. However, each villager has different preferences on the gifts that they like and dislike.

That being said, being aware of the things they like can help you increase your friendships faster. Otherwise, your friendship level with each other will suffer.

Another way is to set up a stall by the Bluebird Cafe and sell items to the villagers that pass by.

Every time they buy an item from you, this will also increase your friendship level, especially if you offer them a discount.

Increasing the Heart Level

After focusing on the friendship level, the next thing that you want to learn is to raise your heart levels.

Basically, the mechanics for this is closely similar to increasing your friendship level. However, some parts are extra specific to some villagers.

For example, changing your appearance and looking at yourself in the mirror every day will increase your heart level with Molly, Lumina, Rock, and Gustafa.

Aside from that, doing some activities also help you increase your heart level with them.

For example, using your hoe, sickle, and watering can will increase your heart level with Cecilia and Matthew.

Getting Married

As mentioned before, marrying a villager requires you to propose first. But before you can propose, you must first reach 8 hearts.

To propose, simply give the blue feather from the Harvest Sprites.

Love events are also a thing in this game. These are events that can be triggered for you to get to know the villagers more. This can also significantly increase your hearts with each other.

However, you cannot see any love events if you have already given the blue feather.

On the other hand, not giving anyone the blue feather at the end of the year will trigger Takakura to go to you. When that happens, you’ll be asked to choose from any character for which you have over 70 friendship points and six hearts.

However, if there is no one that reached the requirement, your default options will be Cecilia and Rock. Upon picking between them, the chosen villager will arrive and propose to you.

List of Useful Gifts

Since giving gifts is one of the most essential ways to increase your friendship, you have some of the generally good items to give the villagers.

Aside from the fact that these items are easy to obtain, especially during the first year, villagers also have a high chance of accepting these.

By strolling around the valley, you can pick up any flowers to give them. These flowers respawn every other day.

However, we recommend not giving the following flowers as gifts since they can be used for some upgrades in the future: Trick Blue, Happy Lamp, Gemsoil, and Upseed.

Other gifts that you can consider are Coins, Moonlight Ores, Leaf Fossils, and Human-shaped Haniwa. You can get these by going to the digging site from 10 AM to 5 PM and speaking with Carter.

Giving your cooked meals is also one. Initially, the first two meals that you can prepare are Milk Soup and Egg Soup. Crops can also be given as gifts.

With that out of the way, here are NPCs in the game and their preferred gifts:

  • Cecilia – You can give her 1 flower, 1 crop, 1 egg, 1 milk soup, and 1 other dish. However, you can replace the flower with either Moonlight Ore or Human-shaped Haniwa.
  • Molly – For Molly, you can give 1 flower, 1 coin or Moonlight Ore, 1 milk, 1 egg soup, and 1 other dish.
  • Nami – The best gifts for Nami are 1 fossil or Haniwa, 1 crop, 1 egg soup, 1 Gemsoil or Trick Blue, and 1 other dish.
  • Lumina – Lumina likes to receive 1 egg, 2 flowers or 2 Moonlight Ores, and 2 Trumpet Mushrooms. However, her likes will eventually change during the second year since she is getting older.
  • Matthew – For Matthew, you can give him 1 milk, 1 egg, 1 crop, 1 herb soup, and 1 other dish.
  • Gustafa – Gustafa likes 1 milk or milk soup, 1 flower or Moonlight Ore, 1 crop, and 1 other dish. However, he doesn’t like tomatoes, so you better give him any crop but tomatoes.
  • Rock – Rock is a bit picky, so you only have three options of what you can give him. He likes 1 fodder, 1 dish, and 1 coin.
  • Gordy – Gordy likes 1 milk or milk soup, 1 egg, 1 egg soup, 1 crop, 1 flower, or any items that you can get from the digging site.
