One of the pivotal points in the main story of Sons of the Forest is when you reach the mysterious golden hand door. Here, Timmy will say, “There’s gotta be a way to open this. A key. Something,” indicating that you need to obtain something first before you can proceed.

Back then, you could just grab the Golden Armor from a bunker and then walk right in. However, things have changed since then.

Without further ado, let’s find out how you can open the golden door.

How to Open the Golden Door in Sons of the Forest

How to Open the Golden Door in Sons of the Forest

You will need to bring a handful of items in order to open the golden door. Without them, passing through is just impossible. They’re as follows:

  • Rebreather
  • Rope Gun
  • Shovel
  • Maintenance Keycard
  • VIP Keycard
  • Guest Keycard
  • Ancient Armor
  • Armor Plating Blueprint
  • 12 Solafite Ore

In the early versions of the game, you only need the Golden Armor. However, during release and recent patches, you need to get the Ancient Armor, which you then upgrade into the Golden Armor via the Armor Plating Blueprint and Solafite.

With that out of the way, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Reach the Endgame Bunkers

You need to progress through the bunker chain first if you want to gain access to the Golden Door area.

This means collecting the keycards in order and unlocking the VIP/Luxury bunker sequence. Most players naturally complete this while following the main story markers.

If you only explored bunkers and ignored caves, you’re probably missing the Ancient Armor.

Step 2: Look for the Ancient Armor

You can find the Ancient Armor deep inside the spaceship cave system, sometimes referred to by players as Cave D or the Spaceship Cave.

This is one of the most dangerous cave sections in the game, especially after the balance updates increased mutant density in several endgame areas. Enemy spawns are more aggressive than they were during Early Access, so you should arrive fully stocked.

Make sure to bring a shotgun, plenty of buckshot, meds, energy drinks, and the cross. Also, bring explosives if possible.

The Cross remains extremely strong against demon-type enemies in the Hell Cave sections and is still considered part of the late-game meta because it can force enemies backward and create breathing room.

Once you’re inside the spaceship cave, you’ll find the Ancient Armor alongside Artifact Piece G and some late-game loot. However, you can’t use the armor for the Golden Door yet.

Step 3: Get the Armor Plating Blueprint

Next, head to the Luxury/VIP bunker where the Golden Door itself is located.

You’ll find a dead body near the door holding the Armor Plating Blueprint. This blueprint will allow you to create the upgrade structure that converts Ancient Armor into Golden Armor.

After that, take the blueprint outside and build it. You will need 4 Wire, 1 Skull, 33 Bones, and 25 Rocks. After building it, insert the Ancient Armor along with 12 Solafite ores.

A mutant horde event will start upon activation. After surviving the wave, the Ancient Armor will then transform into the Golden Armor.

Step 5: Open the Golden Door

Finally, return to the Golden Door.

When you interact with it while wearing the upgraded Golden Armor, your character automatically uses the armor to activate the seal and open the entrance.

Beyond the door is the Hell Cave sequence, which leads directly into the game’s finale.

Final Tips Before the Ending

As mentioned, this is a pivotal point in Sons of the Forest‘s main story, in the sense that it’s the one that leads to the game’s ending.

Hence, before you open the golden door, make sure to save your game and bring lots of ammo. If you haven’t fully explored the island yet, I recommend doing them first.
