If you’re a fan of city-building games, then you’ll most likely find Settlement Survival appealing. Just like any other game of its genre, you’ll have to learn a handful of mechanics to play the game efficiently.
Luckily, we have created this beginner’s tips and tricks article to help you out.
Beginner’s Tips and Tricks to Get You Started in Settlement Survival
Before anything else, you’ll want to get the best start possible in your first playthrough of Settlement Survival. When you click on New Game, you’ll then be greeted by a wide variety of options that you can adjust depending on your preferences.
The most important part you need is to choose which game mode you want to play. You can choose from either of the following:
Standard Mode – The default mode you can start with, the Standard Mode offers a bit of a challenge where various Difficulty settings that you can tweak.
Sandbox Mode – In this mode, you start with all technologies already unlocked. Aside from that, you can build structures without requiring materials, making it perfect if you just want to go creative on your playthrough.
Story Mode – By far the most difficult of the three, the story mode follows through a certain scenario that you have to complete. If you manage to complete it, you’ll then unlock the Eastern Island Statue.
With that out of the way, let’s now talk about the tips and tricks you can follow during your Settlement Survival playthrough.
Pick Your Town Location
At the start of the game, you will be asked to choose a location where you’ll be starting your own town. On the top left corner of your screen, you can find a list of perks that you can get by placing your town in a certain location.
For example, some locations will allow you to yield more gold from open mines while others will increase your harvest from fields and farms. You can easily spot these locations by their icons, and you just have to hover over those locations to see what they offer.
Build Roads
Once you have built your own town, you’ll gain access to road building. I recommend building dirt roads around your town to increase your citizens’ movement speed by 25%. This can be really useful not just in your early playthrough but throughout the entire game.
Of course, you’ll want to upgrade to better roads later on, but dirt roads are your best option in the early game.
Start Farming
Starting a farm will allow you to have a steady supply of food. You’ll start with one seed first, so your next step is to build a standard 8×8 field and place it near your town. After placing the field, click on it and click the Choose icon under the Produce tab.
Here, you can choose which plant you want to grow. As you progress through your playthrough, the list of seeds that you can plant will grow as well. Make sure to build as many fields as you possibly can to further increase the crops that you can yield.
Always Keep Your Citizens’ Health High
Citizen health can be a huge concern in Settlement Survival, as with other games in its genre. Diseases can unexpectedly strike your citizens which can have a huge impact on your settlement as a whole.
Ideally, you want to heal your citizens whenever possible. Your citizens will experience various effects depending on your health level which are as follows:
Above 250% – Citizens will be immune to fracture, plague, and sprain
200-250% – Reduced stamina consumption by around 20%
150-200% – No accidental deaths when your citizens are working
100-150% – No positive or negative effect
50-100% – Increased possibility of fracture and sprain
0-50% – Increased possibility of an outbreak
As you can see, it’s important to maintain a high health percentage at all times so your citizens can benefit from the various benefits it brings.
Keep Your Citizens Happy
Similar to health level, your happiness level can also affect your citizens’ productivity. So it goes without saying that you should keep them happy as much as possible. Here are the effects that your citizens will experience depending on your happiness level:
Above 250% – Increased work efficiency by 20%
200-250% – Increased movement speed by 10%
150-200% – Increased work efficiency by 10%
100-150% – No positive or negative effect
50-100% – Increased food consumption by 10%
0-50% – Possibility of criminals appearing in your settlement
Unlock Technology
As you keep building structures and managing your citizens, you can sometimes forget to use your technology points. So the last piece of advice is to keep an eye on your technology points and use them to unlock technologies that you need.
Also, keep in mind that some technologies will require unlocking certain technologies. I would highly recommend unlocking Delivery and Quick Porter for logistics and Material Recycling for construction first.
