The Twister Spirit Walker build is one of the best builds you can use as a league starter in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) after patch 0.5.
This build heavily focuses on a single skill, Twister. It’s a skill that might seem a bit underwhelming at first, but it can massively scale upwards when built right. It goes from unassuming to absolutely busted over time!
In this guide, I’ll tell you what you need to know to use this powerful build.
Build Basics and How it Plays

We’ve talked about this build before in our article about the best 0.5 league starters, and what was said there still remains true after the proper release of 0.5.
This build is primarily focused on using the Twister skill, as I mentioned before. The main goal is to enhance this skill as much as possible, empowering it for boosted damage, projectile numbers, and speed.
One of the main ways to boost the Twister skill comes from the Spirit Walker Ascendancy. The Spirit Walker has multiple ways to leave Elemental Grounds, which boosts the power of the Twisters.
The Spirit Walker also gives you access to the Primal Bounty skill. This skill allows you to passively gain Owl Feathers over time, which are then spent when you Dodge. Doing so will then empower your next Twister with additional projectiles and speed!
Another key aspect of this build is Vivid Stampede, which leaves Shock Ground. This can be used to quickly and freely buff your Twisters.

Later on, you’ll have allocated Wild Protector, Primal Bounty, and Vivid Stampede for your Spirit Walker. Doing so will unlock Sacred Unity, which primarily allows skills empowered by Owl Feathers to leave a trail of Soaring Ground.
That means, your own Twisters will leave Soaring Ground, creating a feedback loop that makes it easy to keep your Twisters buffed!
To add onto all this, you’ll also use Ice-Tipped Arrows and Barrage to further strengthen your Twister projectiles and increase their numbers.
The last, but definitely not least important, part of this build is Whirling Slash. You keep this at Level 1 optimally, but it’s key for movement and for powering up your Twisters further.
With this build, your skill rotation would be something like: Whirling Slash, Dodge, Ice-Tipped Arrows, Barrage, Twister. In short, power up as much as possible, then let the Twisters sweep!
The Build
Passive Tree
With how large the Passive Tree is in PoE2, it is much easier to follow an image than lay it out all in text here. So, for your ease of use, the next image shows the Passive Tree setup used in this build:

For further reference, pay attention to the icons at the top of the Passive Tree here. They show you the priority order in which to unlock each passive.
Skill Gems
Similar to the Passive Tree, there are a lot of Skill Gems and their Support Gems to keep track of with this build. Just as before, the following image shows you the Skill and Support Gems setup for this build:

As before, this also shows you the rough priority order in which to obtain the Gems. However, the gist of it is that you want to focus on the key Skills of Twister, Ice-Tipped Arrows, and Whirling Slash.
Support Gems here are primarily aimed at powering up your Twisters, but also give you some important utility, such as faster Barrage casts.
Gear
When it comes to gearing, you’ll want two weapon sets. Both of them will have a Spear, but with different stats and use cases on each.
One weapon set should be all-in on Attack Speed, with its only real use being making Whirling Slash a tad better to use. It’ll only be used for powering up your Twisters via Whirling Slash, so it’s just for setup.
The second weapon set should then go all-in on boosting damage. It is the one you’ll actually use to cast your Twisters with, so you want as much damage as possible!
That aside, you don’t really need to focus much on anything too specific for defensive gear while leveling. Your options are quite limited until you reach the Interludes and beyond, so just try to have as much Armour Rating as possible.
Once you do reach the endgame, though, you’ll want to switch to focusing on boosting your Evasion Rating instead. It’s also a good idea to look for these Uniques as random drops, Orb of Chance upgrades, or trading:
- Starkonja’s Head (Helmet)
- The Coming Calamity (Body)
- Beacon of Azis (Amulet)
- Wake of Destruction (Boots)
Ultimately, in the endgame, you’ll continue focusing on boosting your damage output as much as possible. Gear that adds flat elemental damage and boosts Critical Damage Bonus is a good example of what to look out for.
That aside, you’ll also use Evasion Rating as your primary defensive stat, and you’ll want to boost your Critical Hits in every way possible.
Wrapping Up
All in all, the Twister Spirit Walker build is one of the best league starter builds you can use in PoE 2. Now, hopefully, you know what to look out for when going for this build.
This build can take some effort to gear up at the endgame, but it has smooth progression. It can also absolutely decimate everything, from mobs to bosses, with relative ease. And it just takes a dozen or so Twisters pinballing all over the screen!
