As of now, Overwatch 2 currently has 33 heroes on its roster, with a new one slated to be added prior to its release. Of course, the overwhelming selection of heroes you have to choose from can make it confusing which is the perfect hero you should choose.

While it ultimately boils down to your playstyle and preferences, some heroes just stand out among the rest. But how exactly do you choose which hero is perfect for you?

How to Choose the Perfect Hero in Overwatch 2

Choosing the perfect hero role involves a handful of stuff you have to keep in mind. A lot of players won’t even bother specializing in a few heroes but would instead try to play all roles, even all heroes. Of course, if you’re new to the game, then you’ll want to do just this to familiarize the heroes and their abilities.

However, as you keep on playing the game, you’ll need to specialize in a certain role and focus on a few heroes within that role. The optimal strategy is to specialize in 3-4 viable heroes in their respective roles. If you want to use a tank, you can either pick Zarya or Reinhardt. If you want to go DPS, you can either pick Genji or Tracer.

The gist here is to settle on a certain role and master it. That said, let’s have a look at the certain roles in Overwatch 2 to help you decide which is the perfect role for you.

Tanks

A tank’s main role is to create space to allow the DPS players in your team to score some kills. In Overwatch 2, you only have main tanks as the role of an off-tank has been removed. As such, you’ll want to adapt to the playstyle of going in the frontline as a brawler in order to create space for your team.

However, the best thing about tanking is that it’s actually easier now compared to Overwatch 1 since two healers will be there to keep you alive as much as possible. Also, tanks have received a buff that allows them to remain knocked back for a shorter period.

But then again, there’s no more duo tank pairing, so you’ll definitely feel more pressure since you’ll be playing the role of two tanks in one. If you watch to create space for your team and stay in the front lines, then specializing in the role of the tank is for you.

Supports

In Overwatch 2, your role as a support is to keep your teammates alive as much as possible. However, since DPS heroes received a movement speed bonus buff, it will mean that your role as a support will be a lot harder since it will be easier for enemy DPS heroes to target you.

As such, positioning will be key here. Supports also received a buff that automatically heals them whenever they don’t take any damage for a certain period of time. This can be your saving grace in most situations, especially since the enemy team will most likely target you first.

On the bright side, you only have one tank to heal as opposed to the duo tanks in Overwatch 1. This means that it will be a lot easier to help your tank and keep an eye on any enemy coming to target you.

DPS

DPS are the main damage dealers in the game. As mentioned earlier, this role has received a movement speed bonus which allows them to move around the battlefield with ease. This also means that the game will have a faster pace than its predecessor.

If you want to deal damage to enemies and rack up as many scores to win the game, then the DPS role is for you. Do take note, however, that this one requires you to play more actively and aggressively in order to get some kills. It also requires more mechanical skills than any other role.
