The latest Endurance update has brought forth a new freighter type in the form of Living Frigates. Basically, these are the organic versions of the mechanical frigates that we have in the game. As with the standard frigates, you can encounter these Living Frigates during space exploration, albeit a bit harder.

It can get even trickier if you’re aiming for an S-Class frigate. That said, there’s a way to increase your chance of getting one, and this guide will show you how.

How to Get S-Class Living Frigates Guide in No Man’s Sky

Getting your first Living Frigate is actually quite easy. All you need to do is make a few jumps between star systems until you come across an event. When it happens, you just have to save the ship from the pirates. However, if you want to get an S-Class Living Frigate, you’ll have to do some additional steps.

First off, you have to get yourself an Anomaly Detector. The only way to get this is to shoot down asteroids until you finally get one. You might end up having to shoot lots of them in order to get one.

After you have an Anomaly Detector, the next thing to do is to activate it. This will cause it to start scanning for near-space anomalies in the current star system.

You’ll want to pulse drive until you come across a Living Frigate. Do take note that an Anomaly Detector is for one use only, so you might end up needing more of it if you have bad luck. For a higher chance of encountering an S-Class Living Frigate, make sure you’re in a star system with a 3-star Economy.

What you need to look for is a Whalesong alert, and once you get one, exit the pulse and approach the Living Frigate. At this point, all you need to do is inspect the ship, and if it’s an S-Class, purchase it for 1 billion units. If not, try pulsing again until you come across yet another Living Frigate.

Also, there can be more than one frigate per star system, so if you don’t find one, try looking for another before deciding to transfer to another system.

note that living frigates will display a unique text on the screen about Whalesong detected. If you pulse and it just says something about an Anomaly Detected, do NOT come out of pulse to see what it is. The Anomaly Detector is consumed when activated, but if you just don’t exit pulse when it’s not a living frigate, you can ignore that detected anomaly and it’ll keep generating a new one every 20-30 seconds until it generates a living frigate and then you can come out of pulse and claim. Note that you can only get one living frigate per system, so after getting one in a system, you’ll have to go to another and repeat the process there, but by only coming out of pulse for the specific whalesong alert, you save on Anomaly Detectors.
