Monster Hunter Wilds – Which Is the Most OP Weapon?

Is there an OP weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds? Well, not really?…

Monster Hunter Wilds is finally out, and it is the second game of the franchise that has taken on the same gameplay style and aesthetic that was used in World. With that in mind, more new players are coming to the game and wondering what weapon should they use. Having said that, is there an overpowered option in the game right now?

Which is the Most OP Weapon?

There really is no “overpowered” weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds. Anyone who has played the franchise before knows that everything boils down to personal preference, as picking your main weapon is purely a matter of which one best fits your playstyle and vibes.

With that in mind, if you are just looking for something that is powerful and easy to learn, consider trying out the Greatsword or Long Sword. These two are incredibly straightforward weapons with long reach and can deal a ton of damage with little effort.

Hammer is another one, as it has always been one of the simplest options in the franchise. It’s a bit slow and reliant on hitting monsters in the head, so you may have a hard time at first if you struggle with proper positioning.

Finally, the Bow is the ideal choice as far as ranged weapons go. It can be good at any range, and it offers a ton of mobility options with its dodges and just the fact that you can hop around while shooting. Just try not to run out of stamina while fighting.

At the end of the day, it really is just all down to personal preference. If you have played a Monster Hunter game before, you probably already have a weapon in mind, and the general advice in this case is to just stick with your favorite and learn all of the stuff that they added or changed with it.

If you have been a long-time hunting horn afficionado, then by all means, continue bonking monsters with the ol’ doot stick. Insect Glaive may have gotten significantly changed in this game, but it is still a fun weapon to use once you have a few hours clocked in.

Think of it this way: If you pick a weapon that somebody else says is really good but you just can’t seem to get a grasp of how to use it, then none of that matters. Speedrunners love using the Bow, but if you are bad at it, then you are probably going to take too long to kill stuff anyway.

Franco is a writer and avid gamer who spends a lot of his free time looking for the next obscure indie roguelike to add to his collection. If he’s not busy working or writing on his personal blog, there’s also a non-zero chance that you stumble into him in pretty much any multiplayer game that has SEA or OCE servers. He’s pretty good at anything unless it’s a fighting game, in which case you’d probably body him.
