Right before the conclusion of the expansion’s main story, you’ll come across a special mission that tasks you with heading over to the Citadel. Here, you’ll find that all monsters in the area have been eradicated. It will be your task to investigate it.

Eventually, you’ll come face to face with the red-coated Lunagaron which is a much more powerful version of the standard Lunagaron. You will then find out that the one you’re up against is an Afflicted version which is a unique variant of any monsters in the game.

Chichae will be the one to introduce you to this concept, after which you can then take on Anomaly Quests for far better challenges.

Understanding Afflicted Monsters

The Afflicted monsters were the result of the Qurio’s influence. This is an affliction that causes them to go enter a rage that you’ve never seen before. You can’t capture any monster with that status. Moreover, they even inflict Bloodblight which is an ailment that drains your HP over time and reduces the amount of healing you receive.

On the bright side, however, your attacks will heal you. Still, you need to be extra careful in the battle than you normally would in other missions.

When going up against an Afflicted monster, you need to deal enough damage. If not, they will end up exploding and releasing an Anomaly Burst which deals tons of damage and will even knock you back. Monsters with this status also have Anomaly Cores which are bright red spots on their area. You can attack these spots to deal more damage to your target for each Core you break.

Once you have broken enough Cores, the monster will enter the Pacified state. Essentially, it will revert to its standard version which, in turn, allows you to deal even more damage to them. Always keep in mind that there’s no way to capture an Afflicted monster.

After finishing an Anomaly quest, you can then receive Afflicted Materials. These are essentially new components you can use to further enhance your gear or craft new ones.
