Gliding around gaps is one of the mechanics in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga that feels obvious once you have it. At the same time, it can be insanely annoying if you don’t.
That said, the game won’t give you the ability to glide from the get-go. You first have to obtain the Glider which is tied to the Scavenger toolset.
Here’s how you can get your hands on the tool.
How to Get Glider in LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga

To preface, the Glider is one of three Scavenger Tools introduced during the story while playing as Rey. You don’t buy it from a menu, and you don’t unlock it through upgrades either.
Instead, you craft it as part of the main campaign and, once unlocked, it becomes available to every Scavenger character across the entire game.
The Glider is part of the Scavenger Tools alongside the Break Blaster and Net Launcher.
The fastest and intended way to unlock the Glider is by progressing through Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Early in that episode, the game puts you in control of Rey during a scavenging-focused mission designed to teach Scavenger mechanics. Keep in mind that this is NOT optional content, and you can’t skip it if you want the tool.
During this mission, you’ll collect scrap and use workbenches to craft tools needed to continue. After crafting the Net Launcher and using it to reach higher platforms, you’ll find a workbench with a blueprint specifically for the Glider.
Interacting with that blueprint immediately unlocks the Glider.
Why the Game Prevents You From Using the Glider Earlier
You might have ran into glider-marked gaps before unlocking the glider and immediately assumed that something is bugged.
However, those arrows and prompts are intentional roadblocks. Until you complete the Episode VII scavenging segment , the Glider simply does not exist in your toolset, even in Free Play.
Playing other episodes first will not unlock it faster either.
This also explains why switching to different Scavenger characters early on doesn’t help. While the tool unlock is global, it’s still tied to the story.
How the Glider Actually Works

Once equipped, the Glider lets you float forward after jumping, giving you enough distance to reach platforms that would otherwise be unreachable.
You use it mainly for Kyber Brick puzzles, side areas, and optional exploration rather than combat or story progression outside its tutorial section.
The game doesn’t over-explain it, but once you have the Glider, any gap designed for it becomes obvious, and traversal opens up significantly in hub worlds.
Fortunately, there’s no way to permanently missed the Glider. As long as you play through Episode VII’s early scavenging mission, it will unlock automatically.
Even if you start the game in other trilogies, you will eventually need to complete that segment to gain access to Scavenger traversal options.
