Crafting Your First Repair Kit
To repair items, the first step is a workbench. From there, head over to the tools section and select the repair kit. You’ll need three ingredients: two linen scraps, one iron ingot, and one light leather.
Light leather is surprisingly easy to get. It comes from common prey, the standard animals roaming the world, like sheep, rabbits, cows, and deer. Once you collect a light hide from these animals, you’ll need to turn it into light leather. Craft a tanning rack at your workbench, place the hide on it, and voila, light leather ready for crafting.
Linen scraps are dropped by certain mobs, which can spawn at night with torches or occasionally during the day. Iron, on the other hand, comes from caves. Look on the cave walls or ceilings for iron ore. Smelt it in a furnace using any fuel, like wood, and you’ll have iron ingots ready for your repair kit.

Once all materials are gathered, return to your workbench, craft the repair kit, and place it in your inventory. Drag it to your hotbar, right-click, and the repair menu opens. You’ll see all your items with their durability percentages. Click an item to repair it to full durability. Remember, each repair kit is used up entirely on a single repair.
Salvaging Old or Broken Items
Sometimes, an item is beyond repair, or maybe you just don’t need it anymore. That’s where the Salvager’s Workbench comes in. First, you’ll need to upgrade your workbench to level two (Tier 2), which requires 30 copper ingots, iron ingots, and 20 linen scraps.
Once your workbench is level two, go to the crafting section to unlock the Salvager’s Workbench. Crafting it requires six iron ingots, five of any tree trunk, and five of any stone.
With the Salvager’s Workbench, you can break down unwanted items and reclaim the materials used to make them. This works on items with zero durability, or even ones you’ve already used heavily. For example, salvaging a worn-down iron pickaxe might return iron and wood, while other items could yield sticks, rubble, or plant fiber. It’s an easy way to make sure nothing goes to waste and gives you resources for your next craft.
Quick Tips for Repair Kits
I’ve found that keeping repair kits in your hotbar makes life way easier. Scroll to it, right-click, and repair items in seconds. I once repaired my iron sword that was down to 43% durability, and it was back to 100% in a single click. Super satisfying.
Salvaging is perfect for clearing inventory space while also stocking up on useful materials. Even items you think are completely useless can give you resources to craft new gear or upgrades.
