Custom maps are a well-established feature in CS2. They allow players to enjoy specific player-designed content with or without friends by simply importing them into the game. At least, this was how it used to function.
As our long-time readers will surely remember, CS: GO was hugely popular due to these custom-made maps. The process of importing them was easy and quick allowing players to quickly jump in and explore ridiculously funny content. With CS2’s release, this changed. And not for the better.
When it comes to CS2 the process is significantly more difficult. Don’t fret! We’re here to save you a lot of trouble, all you have to do is follow this step-by-step guide.
How to Import Workshop Maps in CS2?
Method 1
There are multiple ways you can go about this depending on what you want to do.
For those players who wish to create their own maps, you need to go to the CS2 Settings menu in the top left corner of your screen. Then go to Game Settings where you will see an option called “Install CS Workshop Tools” which you need to enable.
Enable it so that it says “Yes”.
Please note that by doing this you will be able to create new maps yourself, not import the pre-made ones.
Method 2
This next method will require you to go to an external website (we’ll provide those too) to download maps, which you will then upload to CS2. The website in question is called GAMEBANANA which you can use to download loads of different content for different video games.
But, back to the topic of CS2, what you need to do now is find and select the map you wish to import into your game. For example de_dust2_classic. Click on it and scroll down to the bottom of the screen until you find a “Manual Download” option as indicated in the screenshot below.
A good thing to keep in mind is that on the right-hand side, there is a menu from which you can select maps by the type of match you wish to play. Be it deathmatch or mini-game, they have it all.
Now, once it is downloaded, go to the file’s location, for example, MyFiles>Downloads, and extract the ZIP folder. The extracted file should have a “.vpk” file extension. Now all there is left to do is copy the said file and open the CS2 download folder.
If you’re using Steam then it will be at Drive(D)>SteamGames>steamapps>common>CS2
From here you need to go to a directory called “game” after which you will go to the “maps” folder. Now simply paste the file and voila! You’ve done it!
Finally, you need to launch the game and head back into the game settings once more to the “Enable Developer Console” option. Go back to the main menu and click the tilde key (the one right below your Esc key) to open the developer’s console. From here you just need to start typing “map” and select the map you installed earlier to play it.
With this, you have successfully installed a new custom map to your CS2 game. Enjoy gaming friends!
