Enshrouded allows you to parry attacks with the simple press of a button, but doing it effectively can be quite a challenge.
Getting the timing down is honestly a pain and a half, which is why most players simply opt to forego melee combat entirely in favor of ranged weapons.
If you just love melee combat and want to become a master at parrying, though, this guide is for you!
How to Parry Attacks Effectively
The basics of parrying in Enshrouded are extremely simple. Just raise your shield or two-handed weapon with the right timing and you will perform a parry!
You will notice that your character smacks the enemy and also deals a lot of stun damage when parrying properly.
The right timing, for the most part, is the moment an attack is about to connect with your character. Raise your shield at that exact moment and you’ll perform a parry.
Currently, it seems that you can pretty much parry any physical attack in the game, be it from humanoids or beasts. The timing does seem to vary slightly based on what type of enemy you face, though.
What’s the right timing?
For humanoid enemies, such as Scavengers and the Fell, you should try to time your parry early. That is, slightly before the attack is actually about to hit you.
You’ll also notice that the humanoid enemies’ weapons glow once they’re attacking you. The glow tells you the exact moment to try to parry, but it’s very hard to see most of the time.
For beasts, you should instead try to parry a little late. You need to raise your shield at the very last second for the parry to work.
Thankfully, beasts are particularly loud when attacking, so you can listen to the sounds they make to help you try to get the timing down. That said, the timing amongst beasts varies a lot.
Which brings us down to the reality of learning to parry: you will just have to practice and get a feel for it.
Do any items or skills make parrying easier?
Currently, there seems to be no equipment in the game that makes parrying easier. Nothing that makes the timing window bigger and more lenient. Nothing that makes the timing clearer, either!
Even having a nice shield, like the Pikemead’s Bulwark, won’t help make the timing any easier. Though, it will at least reduce the damage you take on a failed parry…
The only things you can get to improve the parrying experience at all are a few skills, as follows:
Power Parry – Costs 3 Skill Points, upgrades the stun damage dealt by a successful parry.
Bash – Costs 5 Skill Points, makes your parries deal 20 Blunt damage when successful.
Yup, there are only those two skills related to parrying in the entire skill tree, and neither of them makes the parry any easier to land! Just more rewarding.
Nonetheless, now you know everything there is to know about parrying in Enshrouded. Learning to do it efficiently is going to require a lot of practice, so we wish you good luck.
