Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been out for a few days now, and as fans such as myself slowly chip away at its gigantic story, there are a few gameplay mechanics weaved in between that you will have to interact with at some point.
The caretaker’s workshop is one of them, as this entity can help upgrade your gear and add enchantments that can make combat a little easier. This guide will show you how to get a discount for him!
How to Get a Discount (Lower Prices) at the Workshop
Before we begin, it should be emphasized that this discount is for the upgrades to the workshop itself, and not the ones that it can do for your gear. Basically, this makes it cheaper to increase its rank.
There are actually some steps here that you might have accidentally already done at the start of the game. I sure as heck did, so let us go through the initial steps in greater detail below.
Turning the Statues
First of all, you need to turn the statues scattered around the Lighthouse. There are six of these, and you very likely have already done this unless you have been rushing through the story or just never looked around at this zone.
All you need to do is have each pair point towards each other. We will start off with the one to the right of the kitchen / dining hall, where Lucanis stays. Its pair can be found just across from you, right past the left staircase leading above the main building’s entrance.
Once both statues are facing each other, you should see some blue wisps appear out of them. That means you did it correctly, so move to the next one.
The second pair can be found just a few steps away from the last statue you turned if you have been following along. Just above the Lighthouse entrance, you will find two statues facing away from each other.
Simply turn them both around and you should see a bunch of wisps appear once more. If you haven’t already, loot the chest between them for some free stuff too.
Finally, the third pair can be found right behind Neve & Bellara’s rooms, which are at the northern end of your little pocket region in the Fade. Just go behind the two buildings to the north from the Courtyard and you’ll see the two statues there.
Once all have been turned, you will probably notice that the wisps all fly straight towards the Lighthouse. Inside, to the right from the roundtable, you should now be able to access the music room.
Depending on how far you are in the story so far, this will not matter much. Once you have gotten all of the companions, which will happen shortly after one majordecisionvery early in the story, then you can open the closed door inside that room.
Unlocking the Music Room Secret
If you have all of the companions or at least Emmrich, you should be able to see a wisp inside the Music Room. This is the first one you need to unlock the secret in the same room, just walk to it and insert it in either of the receptacles beside the door.
For the second wisp needed to open it, return to the second set of statues that you turned earlier. You should see it in the middle of the two statues, so go touch it and run back to the musicroom.
When both of the wisps have been inserted into the receptacles, the Caretaker should appear. After a bit of dialogue, the door behind him will reveal a portal. Walk through it and interact with the blue object on the table.
Upon interacting with it, a brief cutscene will play, and you will be told that the Astrolabe has been restored. You should also see a small note that says workshop upgrades have been discounted.
The Caretaker will appear once more to thank you in his typical strange and stoic way, and when you get to his workshop in the middle of the courtyard, you should notice a decrease in the costs for upgrading its rank. That is pretty much all you need to do in order to get a massive discount for him, now go and start upgrading the shop and your gear!
Franco is a writer and avid gamer who spends a lot of his free time looking for the next obscure indie roguelike to add to his collection. If he’s not busy working or writing on his personal blog, there’s also a non-zero chance that you stumble into him in pretty much any multiplayer game that has SEA or OCE servers. He’s pretty good at anything unless it’s a fighting game, in which case you’d probably body him.
