The MMORPG Guild Wars 2 has been in the industry for quite some time. If you are an avid fan of MMORPGs, or you just want to try out new games, Guild Wars is arguably one of the best in terms of gameplay and mechanics.

There are many races you can play as and professions that you can specialize in. We are going to show you what you need to know as you start playing Guild Wars 2.

Beginner’s Guide In Guild Wars 2

You can play Guild Wars 2 for free, but some contents are locked, and you need to purchase a downloadable content (DLC) to play it.

There are a total of 5 races that you can play in the game; these are:

  • Asura
  • Sylvari
  • Human
  • Norn
  • Charr

It does not matter which race you are going to play as, but there are race-specific abilities that are irrelevant in the late stages of the game.

There are 9 classes to pick from, but you may only choose one if you have the Heart of Thorns DLC. The following are the classes:

  • Warrior
  • Guardian
  • Hunter
  • Thief
  • Engineer
  • Necromancer
  • Elementalist
  • Mesmer
  • Revenant (Hearts of Thorns DLC)

Create your character, choose your race, and select a class you will prioritize.

Starting Guild Wars 2

Before you create a character in Guild Wars 2, you have to select a server. After creating a character, you will spawn at the Village of Shaemoor, the starting point of everyone in the game. When you open your map, you are going to see a red outline, indicating that you are not allowed to pass this area.

To freely roam around, you must follow the green arrow on the upper right corner for the storyline and defeat the boss. In the village, find an NPC with a looking glass above their head.

They are going to give you a summary of the area, and the quests available. Quests NPCs are indicated by hearts above their heads. The quests are then accessible on the upper right of the screen.

Completing them gives you experience and karma. If the heart of the NPC is full, they turn into vendors, where you can spend karma and buy from them.

As you level up, your personal story follows along. You can see your progress on the green star found on the upper right corner. You can access it on your hero screen, or press H on the keyboard, and pick the story section.

Do your personal story to obtain good gear and other cool rewards. You can also earn experience by gathering and exploring the map, puzzles, and Vistas.

On the upper left corner, the number of hearts and other points of interest you have encountered are shown. One of them is Hero Points, which gives experience and Hero Points. Hero Points are used to unlock different abilities.

You can also do dynamic events to farm for experience. Always remember to bring salvage kits and gathering tools as you are going to need many materials in the end game.

When you reach level 80, you might ponder upon whether DLCs are worth your money or not. But, you can still do so much in Guild Wars 2 even without the DLC. You can enter dungeons, fight against others in PvP, participate in World vs World, and many more. You can even join Guilds that have Guild Events.
