Can you deal damage to vaults while opening it or do you have to wait?

With the latest update of Fortnite comes a bunch of new mechanics related to the current season and chapter’s theme. At the moment, there are vaults that you can open and loot from, but you will need to open them first with the help of certain tools. In this guide, we will try to answer the question as to whether or not you can speed up the opening process for vaults!

Damage Vault Weakspots While Opening a Vault

Vaults can be found in various places throughout the map, and they have a distinct icon that you cannot miss. The only thing to keep in mind when trying to open them is that you will need a bit of thermite.

These explosives can be found all around the game, so just start looting bags and look around in points of interest until you can get some. Once you do, approach a vault and you should see a blue outline where you have to plant the thermite. You can also just throw it at the outline if you want.

Once you do this, it will start melting through the vault door’s mechanisms. To speed it up, all you need to do is wait for the outer layer of the lock to break and then start shooting the glowing part that is currently being heated up by the thermite.

Just keep in mind that using thermite on a vault will also set off alarms in the building. This will alert nearby players and NPCs that you are trying to break into one, so be ready for a fight if there are any enemies lurking about.

If you are trying to complete a mission related to this, make sure to use something that deals a lot of damage, like a shotgun if you have one. This will ensure that you deal enough damage to get it done quickly.

You do not need to try too hard, though, since there are multiple locks to melt no matter which vault you try to break into. You should have more than enough opportunities to get it done in one go even if there are enemies swarming the area.

While you are here, check out our guide on all of the secret vault locations in chapter 6 season 2 of Fortnite. As you can see, there are even more vaults to discover all around the map right now, and the ones featured in that guide are hidden behind varying puzzles rather than a basic locked door!
