Backpacks in Enshrouded are a must-have for anyone starting their journey in the game. Acquiring a backpack upgrade in Enshrouded will give you access to additional inventory slots. Throughout your time in the game, you will get multiple upgrades, all increasing your inventory.
So how do you get these backpack upgrades?
Getting a backpack in Enshrouded requires a few specific steps. This guide will go over these steps and everything you need to unlock the first backpack upgrade in the game.
How to Get a Backpack
The small backpack in Enshrouded increases your inventory size by 8, which is quite a lot for an early upgrade. To unlock this backpack, you will need to find the hunter, and alongside that also need 3 other resources.
The Hunter
To find the hunter, you will need to make your way to the Ancient Vault – Hunter. This place is marked on the map and is very easy to reach using the game gliding feature.

Once inside the ancient vault, you need to make your way through it until you reach the door seen above. The way is fairly straightforward and the staircase will lead you up towards this door.
Inside this door, you will find various empty pods. One of these pods will have a purple glow around it, and is the only one with someone inside. You can approach this pod and interact with it to awaken the hunter.
Once you awaken the hunter, they will make their way back to the shelter. The small backpack will also now be craftable.
Other Resources
The 3 resources you need to craft the small backpack are:
- Torn cloth x3
- Dried fur x4
- String x5
The torn cloth and string are 2 items that are relatively easy to get. For the dried fur though, you will need to carry out a few extra steps.
Besides being able to craft the small backpack, awakening the hunter also allows you to unlock the drying rack. The drying rack is essential to crafting the backpack.
You have to use a drying rack to dry animal fur to create dried fur. Once you put your resources inside a drying rack, you will get the end product after a certain fixed time. For the dried fur you will have to wait for just a minute.
