Elder Scrolls Online is filled with hidden secrets, and as anyone who has played the Elder Scrolls games knows, sometimes the most oddly powerful things can be found in the oddest places. In this case, the secret powerful affect is hidden in the delicious plate of Clockwork Citrus Filet. To explain how good this dish is, the best available purchasable food is a Mammoth snout pie with a 2706 Max HP increase versus the Filet’s incredible 3724. Combined with HP recovery at 351, your max Magicka increased by 3458 and Magicka recovery by 319, though only for 2 seconds.
How To Get The Recipe For The Clockwork Citrus Filet
Appropriately for a powerful consumable, the recipe is not easy to get, and will require some legwork to complete all the appropriate quests. The Clockwork City DLC is required to attain this recipe, so you won’t get very far if you’re playing without it.
Tarnished Truffles
Once you’ve booted up ESO, your first step is to go to Brengolin in Clockwork City, your quest giver for this mission. They can be found in the Outlaw’s Refuge.
Once you speak to them, the first of the quest string, “Tarnished Truffles”, will start. Brengolin needs mushroom help, and you’re the thief to do it. Find your way to Salas Ramathran’s abode at the hall of refined techniques, and there you’ll need to steal his notes on Ironstalk Mushrooms, which he has carelessly left out in the open for you to snag.
You’ll also wish to go to the Halls of Regulation to gather the 3 Ironstalk Mushrooms you need. You’ll need to travel across the river of oil to reach it, but once there, it’s just a matter of following your quest marker and scrounging the halls for said mushrooms.
Tasty Tongue Varnish
After heading back to Brengolin, he will give you a new quest, “Tasty Tongue Varnish”. This time, our cook friend needs alcohol. You’ll start by speaking to Maurice Ouren close to the main entrance to the brass fortress.
He’ll give you your objectives, first stealing Port Hunding reserve in Stros M’kai, then stealing Whispering Hooch. The Wellspring Hooch can be found inside the catalog of rote duplication inside the Clockwork Basilica.
The Port Hunding reserve can be found in Stros M’kai on the second floor of the Screaming Mermaid.
Thankfully, no more skulking is needed, as you can return to Maurice to get the liquor, which you can return to Brengolin to begin the final step.
A Matter of Tenderness
Once you return to Brengolin, he gives you your 3rd quest, “A Matter of Tenderness”. To begin, you’ll need to hunt down wild fabricants and gather their meat. Any wild fabricants in the city will do, so hunt down 12 Fabricant Meat to finish this task. Once you do, you’ll need to find Hand Raised Nix meat.
The Nix breeder is Bratheru Daram, you can complete this quest by going the noble route and just paying Bratheru for the meat, though the cost is leveled, so don’t think it’ll come cheaply. Your other choice is to steal it by sneaking into the stables and taking it from a chest found on a platform above the animals there.
Once you have the meat, you can return to Brengolin, though this time he can be found just at the entrance to the brass fortress. Once you turn over the meat, you’ll head down to the Outlaw’s Refuge to view the taste testing. In thanks, Brengolin gives you the recipe for our elusive cutlets.
Of course, all of this is just for the recipe. Brengolin promises you that the ingredients are easy, but that’s a small fib. You’re going to need to scrape together some Red Meat, a Lemon, Frost Mirriam, and Perfect Roe.
While the first 3 ingredients can be found randomly throughout the world or on enemies, Perfect Roe can only be found by fishing. Your only other reliable choice is to buy them from the guild store which can be unpredictable at best.
With the ingredients gathered at last, you need to ensure that you have the Recipe Improvement 1 and Recipe Quality 2 skills to be able to cook this legendary meal. Finally, after all this running around, ingredient gathering, and more, your hero can finally chow down on some delicious Clockwork Citrus Filet. Enjoy that meal, you earned it!
