DELTARUNE Chapter 3 also features a secret Shadow Crystal that you can obtain but it is no easy task. You’ll need to defeat the Roaring Knight Boss which is probably one of the hardest fights you’ll ever face in the series. This is because you will need to be on the top of your game – while also fulfilling certain requirements. If you’re struggling with this boss too, we’ve got you covered! In this guide, we’ll go over the entire strategy that you need to defeat the Roaring Knight and get that Shadow Crystal. Let’s dive in!
How to BEAT Roaring Knight BOSS & Get Shadow Crystal
The first major requirement that you need to fulfill to beat the Roaring Knight boss in Deltarune is to get the Shadow Mantle.
Without the Shadow Mantle, the boss will simply one shot you. If you do not have the Shadow Mantle, you will unfortunately need to restart if you really want to get your hands on the Shadow Crystal.
You can check out our detailed shadow mantle guide to obtain it. We have minimal spoilers to ensure we do not ruin your experience.
Before The Fight – Preparations
After you’ve obtained the Shadow Mantle and gotten to the point where you’re ready to face the Roaring Knight, you’ll need to prepare for the fight.
We suggest that you get the Devilsknife because it offers reduced Rude Buster TP consumption. You’ll be using the Rude Buster as you main offensive tool – so it is incredibly useful.
Of course, try to bring all the top gear that you have with you.
Additionally, we strongly suggest that you head back and save after you defeated Tenna. Otherwise, you’ll need to fight her all over again before you can even get to the Roaring Knight.
Start Of The Fight
At the start of the fight, you should hold your breath as Kris for extra movement speed. After that, your goal should be to attack with Susie and defend as Ralsei. Later on, your can focus entirely on defending with Kris and Ralsei, while Susie attacks.
As for who gets the Shadow Mantle, you have two options. You can give it to Susie so that she can tank more damage as she will not be defending. However, she does have the most health, so she can definitely tank hits.
In that case, you can give the Shadow Mantle to Kris, as she is the second most important member. You can give Susie your best damaging armor so that her attacks her further improved.
Fight Strategy
The goal with the Roaring Knight boss is to get it’s HP down by around 25% i.e. when he reaches around 60-70% of his HP. This is the only way you will win the fight.
As for the strategy, you’ll be spamming the Rude Buster attack throughout the fight with Susie while defending with the Susie and Kris as much as possible.
Of course, if necessary, you should try to heal with Kris only. This is because Susie or Ralsei die during the fight, they go to -999 HP which can only be recovered using Revive Mints. On the other hand, Kris only goes to -80 HP when she dies.
Whenever you have the TP, always use the Rude Buster with Susie. When you’re lacking in TP, simply focus only defending, but always try to attack when you can.
Additionally, always hit Z right before a Rude Buster hit for a damage boost.
Surviving Boss Attacks
The Roaring Knight boss features some of the most difficult attacks you’ll face in Deltarune. In total, you’ll face five types of attacks throughout the fight, which will get more difficult as the fight progresses.
Here is a breakdown of the attacks, with the best way to survive them:
Ice Crystal Barrage
The hitboxes are smaller than they look so you can simply pass through the crystals
Damage is lower than other attacks, so getting hit once or twice is survivable
Be sure to get away from the explosions at the end
Gaster Sword Blasters
Stay in the middle and only move when it’s about to fire
Avoid going to corners or you can get stuck there
Can one shot a defending, max-HP Ralsei so be careful!
Lemonbread Slash
Avoid moving too early as you can dodge into the attack and get damaged
Hug the walls so you have maximum reaction time
Swords’ Dance
Incredibly unforgiving hitbox with no invincibility frames
The best thing you can do here is to move slow and focus hard
Regular Slash
Easiest attack to dodge as it is very telegraphed
Avoid moving too much and only do so when the attack is coming
If you know this attack is coming, it’s your best opportunity to heal
Even with all these strategies, it’s very likely you get hit because Roaring Knight is incrediblyt unforgiving. The main thing is that you learn the patterns and do not give up!
End Of Fight
When you’re approaching the end of the fight, the Roaring Knight will start glowing white. As mentioned before, this is around 60-70% of his HP.
This is your signal that his final attack is coming up – which is completely different to the other attacks you’ll have seen so far.
The final attack is incredibly showy – and has a very harsh hitbox. Pretty much everything you can see on screen can damage you!
Your goal should be to stay towards the left or right of the screen, as opposed to the corners at the bottom of the screen. This will give you the most room to move around and dodge the attacks.
Keep focused and do not make unnecessary movements – and this will allow you to survive it.
From there, all you need to do is attack him normally and you’ll complete the fight!
Getting Shadow Crystal
After you defeat the Roaring Knight, it will play a cutscene which we will not discuss to minimize spoilers. After you’re able to move, go to the right where the boss was.
You’ll be able to pick up the Shadow Crystal from there.
Additionally, you will also acquire the Black Shard, which is the strongest weapon for Kris at this stage.
That’s everything you need to know about defeating the Roaring Knight boss in Deltarune. Even with all of this strategy, it will still take you quite a few tries to master this boss. His attacks are just so punishing that you’ll need practice to master the patterns. Just remember to be patient and you’ll be able to win in no time.
why the hell do you refer to kris using she/her pronouns, while the game entirely uses they/them?
the game has never referred to the knight with he/him pronouns, entirely referred to as just The Knight (maybe with occasional uses of they and it? i can’t be entirely certain)
