In Death Must Die, Merris is one of your five playable characters. Until the Q1 update set for early 2024 she is currently the only ranged character in the game, which allows for some pretty unique gameplay choices.
This guide will break down the playstyle of Merris, the best blessings you can pick up and the quickest way to use her for a full run!
Complete Merris Guide
The Basics
Merris is a ranged sorceress capable of throwing balls of magic at her enemies. The key to a successful run with her is keeping your distance from enemies.
Merris has pretty low defences. Her ranged attacks can be rather slow if not upgraded with a blessing such as Haste.
You’ll want to keep moving and take down enemies before they reach you.
From a distance, Merris’ attacks can be a tad fiddly to aim. We’d highly recommend turning on the Auto-Toggle attack button when facing hordes, since each hit can be the difference between life or death.
Blessings
Your blessings are going to be imperative as Merris, since she can easily be overwhelmed in close quarters.
Merris is a ranged combatant, so you’ll want to pick up blessings that lean into that playstyle.
We’d definitely recommend picking up the Haste blessing since this will increase your movement speed.
This will make it easier to stay one step ahead of huge hordes like the Slimes.
We also recommend significantly levelling up your lightning bolt blessing from the God of Lightning. This is a ranged attack whose damage will stack over time.
Levelled up successfully will see you never even having to attack enemies around you!
Our final recommendation for Merris is the Life Link boon. Her biggest weakness is her poor defenses, meaning you’ll have to be dodging a lot.
This blessing lets you steal health from enemies and add it to your own when dashing through them. Perfect for Merris!
Gear
There are only a few necessities with the gear to equip for Merris, since most of your advantages will be picked up as blessings when in the field!
To this end, we highly recommend equipping as many Alteration Dice as you can! These will let you swap out the blessings offered to you, meaning you can stop wasting time levelling up boons you don’t need.
You’ll want to equip Banishment Dice as well. Very quick into your run with Merris you’ll realise which abilities work well and which ones don’t.
Banishment Dice let you banish certain blessings from ever being offered, making it easier to specialize.
The final piece of kit we suggest is any weapon that has target-acquisition! This is going to help with that difficult targeting issue we’ve already mentioned. Your DPS isn’t imperative here, since most of your damage will come from blessings anyways!
That’s it for our breakdown of Merris. By now you’ll have realized she’s a great ranged combatant with an emphasis on picking up blessings that take down enemies from afar. Her poor defenses mean you’ll want to be quick and stay a step ahead at all times!
