There are plenty of fish in the sea of Dave the Diver, and even some shallow-level ones are a challenge to new players.

With a few upgrades, you could be able to catch them; however, some are trickier than others, and sometimes fish swing accompanied by lower-level ones.

In other words, knowing ahead of time which fish are dangerous will help you get the most out of any dive.

Here, we will mention where to find the hardest fish in the game and a brief strategy to catch them easily without having to have the strongest weapons.

How to Get the Hardest Fish

In Dave the Diver, fish are our biggest enemies, and some are fairly easy to beat; however, we picked some of the hardest ones according to most players and listed how to deal with them.

Even without some important upgrades, you should be able to kill any of the ones we mentioned here:

Thresher Shark

As one of the biggest threats to the shallow sea, you’ll probably die more fighting this beast than any other boss in the game.

He’s active during the daytime in the Blue Hole Shallows, and he’s often alone swimming in the sea.

As with all of the sharks in the game, this one is aggressive and will attack you on sight. The best you can do is invest in a sniper, but if you are just starting, try to fight him with the best tranquilizer upgrade for any weapon and learn its pattern.

Also, keep in mind his fast movement speed before attacking, because you can get hurt before you even hit him. His attacks are mostly aggro range; he swims fast, and he has a quick tail slash. If you can, equip yourself with a scooter so you can move faster.

Shortfin Mako

Probably the fastest shark in the game, the Mako can be a menace if you don’t have a scooter equipped.

They mostly show up in rainy weather in the shallows and are very aggressive. Now, the squid accessory allows you to dash, and eating dumplings gives you a plus movement speed buff.

Both buffs and knowing its attack pattern will give you enough advantage to catch it without drowning in the process.

Dave attacking shark

His movement, when he attacks, will allow you to swim away from him, and after the shark finishes its charge, turn around and shoot him. If you can, use high-rank tranquilizer weapons, such as the Tranquilizer Triple Axel.

Sailfish

Even though the Sailfish isn’t as difficult as many shards, it can trust and slash, and it’s very fast while at it. This fish only appears in the Blue Hole Medium Depth. It can be found mostly in the shipwreck interior during the night.

He is a very rare fish, so you want to get the most meat out of him before you go up. The best you can do is get a high-level tranquilizer tip for your harpoon or the Tranquilizer Tripple Axel.

Smooth Hammerhead

You might encounter this shark in the Blue Hole Medium Deth, both outside and inside the shipwreck interior.

One of the biggest troubles while fighting this shark is the possibility of finding him swimming with other fish nearby. His pattern is simple, but it can really do some damage if you’re unprepared.

It charges in a straight line, and if you counter its attacks, you can stun it. After charging, it will slash with his head. The third slash is the biggest, and it needs to charge after every slash.

This means it’s really slow but tanky, so we recommend you attack it after the whole pattern is complete to avoid damage.

Pelican Eel

This eel can only be found in the Glacier Passage, and as a carnivore and very aggressive fish, catching it is a challenge but is worth it. The best strategy is to wait for its attack, run, attack it, and keep moving.

If you want to harvest the Pelican Eel Skin, it is important that you use the triple axel tranquilizer. It is used to upgrade the Net Gun to a Steel Net Gun. If you don’t have that weapon, any poison upgrade can be very helpful instead.

Honorable mentions

All Aberrant Fish

In the Dredge DLC, there is a new type of fish that is very aggressive and hard to catch without the proper preparation.

Dave the Diver is very cozy, but it’s very challenging even from the beginning. Knowing how to deal with some of the nastiest enemies from the get-go can save you a lot of frustration and keyboard-smashing moments.
