Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is finally releasing after a long and troubled development, so a beginner’s guide is in order!
As with a lot of other MMORPGs, the start of Blue Protocol can be pretty underwhelming. There are all the classes to pick from, currencies to deal with, resources to collect, etc… it’s quite a lot!
Fret not, though! Our guide will help you with the very basics you need to have an easier start with this game.
Beginner’s Guide | Blue Protocol: Star Resonance
Class System Basics

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance follows a pretty standard “holy trinity” setup for its classes. That means that all classes are some sort of DPS, Tank, or Support. Ideally, a strong party will want to have one of each!
When it comes to DPS, you have 4 different choices: Marksman, Wind Knight, Stormblade, and Frost Mage. Each one fills the role in its own unique way, but they all have one simple goal: dealing damage.
For Tanks, you have either the Shield Knight or Heavy Guardian. Shield Knight is more focused on self-sustain and drawing enemy aggro directly. Meanwhile, Heavy Guardian is more of a slow brawler that can pull enemies and relies on high defense.

Lastly, for Supports, you first have the Verdant Oracle as the more straightforward pure healer. On the other hand, you also have the Beat Performer (aka Soul Musician) which has lesser healing output but can provide buffs to the team!
While it is possible to unlock other classes later on, this is generally too time-consuming and not recommended. So, make sure to pick the one that fits you most from the get-go. You can check out our endgame class tier list for some more details on each class.
Focus on the Story and Dungeons

As a beginner, your two main focuses at the start should be the game’s main story and dungeons.
The main story is your main source of EXP. You’ll level up way faster by focusing on it over anything else in the game!
However, do note that leveling in this game is time-gated. You won’t be able to actually reach the level cap of 60 for the first 12 days of the server launch. On the upside, EXP rewards are increased as well, so it shouldn’t take long to reach max level after the time-gating is over.

Dungeons, known as Chaotic Realms, are your main source of gear. Make sure not to ignore them! While gear isn’t super important early on, you’ll definitely have an easier time if you do dungeons as often as possible.
Going through dungeons can be a challenge, but you can play on Normal with AI-controlled teammates while you get your bearings. It’s a good idea to try that out at first!
Don’t Ignore the In-Game Guide

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance features an in-game guide that can be pretty easy to overlook, but also very helpful to any beginner! You can find it at the very bottom of the Menu, as shown above.
This guide covers a lot of the basics of the game, but it goes a step beyond just that as well. It even covers more specific things, for example, such as dungeon-exclusive mechanics!
It might not be as detailed as the guides you’ll find online, but it is still worth a look every now and then. After all, it’s readily available within the game itself! So, don’t ignore this feature.
Be Mindful When Upgrading Skills

Another important thing to keep in mind is that you can upgrade your Class Skills. You can upgrade both their Level and Tier.

Upgrading the Level of a skill is fairly non-commital. It uses up the standard currency of Bound Luno, which is fairly plentiful. You can upgrade every Class Skill up to Level 30.

Advancing the Tier, on the other hand, is something you really have to be careful with. Every single Tier upgrade uses up Skill Advance Books for your specific Class.
These Skill Advance Books aren’t very plentiful, however, especially if you’re an F2P player. So, it’s best to hold off on upgrading a Class Skill’s Tier if you’re not 100% sure of what you’re doing!
Understanding Currencies and What to Get

As you might expect from this type of game, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance has multiple different currencies that you need to learn about as a beginner!
The two main currencies to keep in mind are Luno and Rose Orbs. They both come in Bound and Unbound types, with Unbound being the rarer and more limited type. Bound currencies have a chain icon on them.

Bound Luno is the primary and more generic of the currencies. You get it commonly from just playing the game, clearing quests, defeating monsters, opening chests, etc. It’s a pretty standard and common currency!
The main use for Luno is to upgrade your Class Skills and purchase materials from NPCs’ shops.
As for Unbound Luno, you’ll mainly get it by selling items in the Trading Center, which is a player-to-player trading system. Its main use is to buy items from that same Trading Center or the game’s Mystery Shop.

Moving on, Rose Orbs are more of the “premium” currency of the game. Bound Rose Orbs are more common, given away for free as rewards. Unbound Rose Orbs, on the other hand, can only be obtained via microtransactions.
The main difference between both types of Rose Orbs is just what you can buy with them. Unbound Rose Orbs can be used to purchase exclusive premium cosmetics and premium Wishes, which are the game’s gacha system.

As for what to get with these currencies… we recommend prioritizing the limited rewards from the in-game Mystery Store. These refresh daily and are pretty worth it if you need resources.
The most important of these resources are the Skill Advance Books! As we mentioned previously in this guide, those are pretty rare and required to upgrade your Class Skills’ Tiers. Make sure not to miss those, at least.
Exploring the World

As you make progress throughout the game, it’s a good idea to be brave and explore the vast open world!
You’ll often find various rewards in hidden chests all over the world, for example. Sometimes you’ll also meet NPCs who give you side quests, which are a great source of materials and EXP. Fairly standard stuff, admittedly, but important nonetheless.

Worth noting, though, that you’ll unlock a variety of movement skills as you level up. You can find these movement skills within your Adventurer Level menu, as shown above. Make sure to activate and use them to speed up traversal!

Additionally, we highly recommend visiting the Ancient City of Vill as soon as possible. It’s in the southern part of the Asteria Plains.

You’ll find a large white and blue flower that you can Resonate with there. Doing so will unlock extra movement skills for the area! Most importantly the Float skill, which allows you to glide in the air.
In summary, just make sure to explore the world after you get some movement skills! There are a lot of goodies to find all over the place, don’t miss out on them.
Use the Monster Hunt Feature

As our last tip for beginners, you should know that there’s a handy Monster Hunt feature on your map. It’s near the bottom, as shown above.

This handy feature allows you to check where specific enemies are in-game. It even lets you know when Bosses spawn and where, as well as what rewards you can get from them!
Speaking of, it’s a good idea to hunt down these Bosses whenever you can. They give good rewards, such as Bound Rose Orbs and other assorted loot.
Furthermore, participating in defeating one of these Bosses will drop a special chest that usually contains solid gear. You can open this chest by using a Boss Loot Key.
You get 2 Boss Loot Keys every single day, and you can save up to 6 of them. There’s not much reason to hoard all 6 if you’re already full, though! So, go hunt some bosses and collect some extra loot, as well as other goodies when possible.
That’s the end of our beginner’s guide for Blue Protocol: Star Resonance! We hope this helps you get an easier start with this new MMORPG.
