Making an optimal AIC factory setup is an important part of Arknights: Endfield, and the Refining Unit is one of the many facilities you need to optimize.

If you really want to be optimal, you have to mainly consider the input and output rates. Matching them means the machine never stops working, wasting no time in production. That and optimal use of space are the main things to consider!

In this guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to make your Refining Unit and other facilities work at 100% efficiency.

How to Match Input and Output Rates

The best setup for the Refining Unit in this game is thankfully quite simple. All you really need is to have a single conveyor belt feeding into your Refining Unit’s input. It really is that simple!

Now, let me explain the reasoning for this. Conveyor belts move items at a rate of 0.5 per second, and pretty much every Refining Unit output requires 2 seconds to process raw materials into a finished product.

That essentially means that a single plain conveyor belt feeding the Refining Unit is enough to 100% match the processing rate. It doesn’t take more than that.

This also means that using certain facilities, such as Splitters, is actively detrimental in most cases. They slow down the rate at which your conveyor belts feed the Refining Units, while also requiring more Power to run.

To figure out the required input, the logic is fairly simple. Take the required input items divided by the Crafting Duration, then multiply the result by 2.

For the Refining Unit, that would mean 1 divided by 2, resulting in 0.5. Then, multiply that by 2 to get 1. In that case, you need just 1 input conveyor belt to match the output.

As another example, let’s say you have something that requires 30 input items and takes 20 seconds to craft. 30/20 = 1.5, then multiply by 2 to get 3. So, that would require 3 input conveyor belts to match the processing rate.

Keep that simple formula in mind and you’ll be able to optimize all of your facilities, not just your Refining Units! Though, to simplify as I said before, Refining Units generally just require 1 conveyor belt for all crafts.

How to Optimize Space

The other important part of making the best Refining Unit setup is to make the most out of the limited space you have at your AIC.

As I covered in the guide about automating mining and crafting, the best setup is one that keeps things compact.

Look at the example above, for one. It keeps the Refining Unit close to the Automation-Core, while also having an Electric Pylon nearby for power. Everything is neatly in one spot, which is an optimal setup early in the game.

Later on, however, things do start to get more complex as you need more facilities in general. At that point, I highly recommend making good use of the Blueprints system.

You can check fan-made websites, such as the AIC Factory Blueprints section of EndfieldTools. Users can share and vote for Blueprints there, ensuring that you get only the best and most optimal.

If you want to use these Blueprints, you’ll either need to recreate them manually or use a Sharing Code, depending on the blueprint. If you want to learn more about Blueprints, check out our full guide on Blueprints!

Anyway, I highly recommend using these external tools and the like in Endfield. Some players have everything down to a science and are willing to share their fully optimal setups.

Nonetheless, that’s all I have to share about how to make the best Refining Unit setup in Arknights: Endfield. I hope this helps you optimize your AIC as much as possible.
