Mods are one of the biggest pros of PC gaming, so we’re all curious to see if the upcoming Enshrouded will support them.
After all, open-world survival crafting games like Enshrouded are fantastic sandboxes for modders to play with. Just look at games like Minecraft and Terraria, which have received some incredible overhauls as mods!
In this article, we’ll look into whether Enshrouded is planned to have any official mod support on release or not.
Will the Game Support Mods?
The developers at Keen Games state on the game’s official Discord server that mod support is something they consider, but can’t guarantee.
The official quote reads as follows: “There are no questions that mods are what makes a game truly great, but at this stage, we cannot make promises that the game will be moddable.”
The main reason for their reasoning is that, and we quote, “using our own custom engine means we would have to develop our own tools, etc, to make mods a thing.”
In short, they say that mods are fantastic for games but Enshrouded is built on a custom engine. This makes it hard to mod without official mod tools, which they can’t guarantee.
Modding Enshrouded might not be possible unless they can provide these mod tools. However, developing these tools takes time and effort, which is why they’re unsure if they’ll be able to make them.
Nonetheless, their attitude towards mods is overall positive. If modders can figure out how to create mods without official tools, it’s unlikely that the developers at Keen Games will stop them.
After all, the lack of official mod tools only makes modding harder, but not impossible.
Look, for example, at games like the Dark Souls series. They receive full overhaul mods even to this day despite having no official mod support at all
But, long story short, Enshrouded will not officially support mods at launch. The developers might work to ensure official mod support is added to the game later, but there are no guarantees.
As such, all we can do is wait for the game to release and see if a modding community forms around the game or not. We would love for it to happen, though!
Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
