The answer depends on what you call win. Let’s discuss it.

Undecember is a Hack and Slash ARPG released October 11 in Steam. One important question everyone makes before jumping into a game is to know if the game is pay to win.

Those who do not want to spend money on a game can find it incredibly frustrating when you are pretty much forced to buy something from it just to have a good experience playing.

Take a quick look at what we have to say and to answer the question, “Is Undecember pay to win?”

Is Undecember Pay to Win?

Undecember counts with 7 different forms of currencies. Technically, 9 of them.

  • Gold
  • Diamonds
  • Rubies
  • Gemstone of Merit
  • Gemstone of Courage
  • Guild Coin
  • Guild Seals

The last two don’t matter much to us – as their name can reveal they’re related to guild matters, so they will probably be won doing group activities, but that plays on the question, as any content that is PvP always lean toward a Pay to Win scheme, no matter the game.

Gold is your basic currency in this game. That and Gemstones you can get for free. The Diamonds and the Rubies are the premium currency inside Undecember, and as you can see if you get into the Paid Shop window, there are two variations for each: Paid and Free.

The existence of the latter implies that you can obtain the premium currency of the game via gameplay without the need to pay, but we can’t be sure how hard the grind is to get them, and the quantity.

What Can You Buy In Undecember

Crafting and enchanting ingredients in the game appears to be a tedious process. The store allows you to buy it, and other features that improve the QoL of your game experience like stash and inventory space are locked behind the premium currency.

The Bundle section of the game paints a hard picture. Even the simplest of bundles cost hundreds of rubies, and others get to the thousands.

As said before, you can win rubies while playing freely, but players who spend money will have a definite advantage. The way re-rolls work also can be problematic, as people with gambling issues could fall prey to the system.

Friendliness

Despite all of the previous points, it can not be denied the game also has incorporated many systems that make it friendly to F2P players.

There are events you can participate in to gain rewards, and when you first join there is the classic kind of event log-in during continuous days to win rewards, letting you get good equipment and other things to help you during your adventure.

Another incorporation that helps F2P players is a Pity System that ensures you that after a number of re-rolls (1500 according to multiple sources – but we can’t confirm his yet) you are guaranteed to get a six-sized skill.

Summary

A lot of nice features and important resources of the game can be paid for, and this is a definitive advantage to players who pay, so the game is pay to win.

However, this doesn’t mean it is unplayable as it happens in many other cases. You can go through the solo content without the need to pay for anything, and if you are willing to grind things you get rewarded for it.

As the gameplay is also a bit more interactive than just clicking enemies and watching your character hit them just buying things isn’t enough to win. The gap between “whales” (players who pay) and free players is there, and to be fair, it always exists in any game, but in Undecember it is not gigantic.
