After a year of exclusivity in the Epic Games store, Chivalry 2 has finally made its way to Steam. Of course, with a good number of fans of the genre waiting for this game to release, it’s not surprising that a ton of players will be out to try it.

If you’re one of those players, then I highly recommend checking out this Chivalry 2 beginner’s guide for everything you need to know as a complete newbie.

Beginner’s Guide Everything You Need to Know in Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2 is an action-packed game, to say the least. It involves skirmishes between factions and even against players. So if you’re a complete beginner, you might find yourself getting absolutely crushed by veterans of the game.

Luckily, there are several ways to level the playing field, and these are as follows:

Learn the Basics of Combat

You have four different combat techniques in your arsenal that will help you turn the tides of battle. These are the block, kick, parry, and riposte.

Blocking enemy attacks involve aiming your crosshair at the incoming weapon attack as you hold the block button. It’s not just holding the block button, but you have to actually position it at the part where an attack is heading to. Of course, you can hold down the block button to block continuous attacks, but you’ll have to make sure you aim your weapon to where those attacks are.

Keep in mind that blocking will consume stamina, and once it’s depleted, you’ll be open to enemy attacks. This brings us to the next combat technique: parrying. You can still lose stamina during parries, but it won’t be as much as blocking.

To parry an attack, you have to press the block button right before an enemy attack hits you. This can involve a bit of proper timing, but if you manage to pull it off, you’ll be able to enjoy an attacking advantage. All you need to do is press the attack button after a successful parry. This will initiate a riposte.

Parrying is a crucial skill to learn, especially if you’re up against multiple enemies. It’s because if you manage to parry one attack, the second attack is automatically blocked.

As for the offensive, you have the kick which basically lets you stagger a blocking enemy. This is a really useful technique that lets you deal with enemies who are good at blocking.

Pick Your Class

The game offers you four different classes to choose from. These are the Archer, Footman, Knight, and Vanguard. The class you choose will mostly depend on your playstyle. If you prefer wielding massive weapons like maces and giant swords, then the Vanguard is your best option. If you’d rather attack enemies from a safe distance, then the Archer is your best bet.

The Footman has access to spears which also lets them poke enemies from a short distance. They’re also the only class capable of healing other characters, thus making them a support class. Then we have the Knight which is a well-rounded class that can dish decent damage while being able to survive clashes for long.

Learn the Game’s Objectives

Chivalry 2 has two game modes. The first one is a deathmatch where everything goes. The only goal is to defeat your enemies and rake in kills as many as possible.

The second one involves pushing multiple objectives that should be completed within a certain duration. This is the more complicated one as it will involve strategy and teamwork on your team, depending on which side you’re on.

The game mode consists of attackers and defenders. The attacking team’s objective is to capture various points on the battlefield that are marked by yellow markers. They will have to stand near those markers until a bar fills up, until which they can then move on to the next.

Meanwhile, the defending team’s goal is to prevent the attacking team from doing so. It’s worth noting that playing on the defending side is a bit harder. However, you will only lose in the event you and your team weren’t able to defend the last objective. As long as you can prevent that from happening until the time runs out, then it’s your team’s win.

Avoid Hitting Your Teammates

As a new player, you might be surprised to find out that friendly fire exists in this game. This can be hard to avoid when you’re clashing against other players since wide swings that are meant for the enemy can hit your teammates as well. The damage they take isn’t that huge, but still, any lost HP can make a difference in the heat of battle.

If you find yourself in such a situation, the best you can do is to resort to thrusts and overhead strikes instead of wide swings. This way, you’ll minimize the chances of you hitting your teammates unless they’re standing directly in front of you.
