Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get to the Underdark?

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of interesting locations for you to explore. One of the most intriguing ones you’ll find is the Underdark. This vast network of tunnels is home to many mysteries, monsters, and riches.

However, it’s not very clear at first how to actually get there. You can’t just dig a hole in the ground, you have to find an entrance. Luckily for you, there are multiple ways to get to the Underdark. So let’s take a look at them.

How to Get to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are 4 different ways that you can reach the Underdark, each with its own quirks. They are scattered all over the map, so you can choose the one that’s most convenient to you.

You can either reach it via a ladder in the Goblin Camp, and an elevator on Zhentarim Hideout, a portal at the Gnarled Teahouse, or literally jumping down a chasm in the Blighted Village.

Goblin Camp Ladder

Go inside the Shattered Sanctum through the giant wooden doors, then head upstairs using the stairs to the left. Once there, take the door to the right. Inside this room, you should see another ornate door that takes you to the Defiled Temple.

When you’ve entered the temple, take the stairs to the left, and then head further left through the archway. Check the wall on the left for a lever. Once you unlock it, go down the stairs and you’ll find another locked door with a lever. Unlock that one, and you’ll get access to the Underdark.

Gnarled Teahouse Portal

nside the Gnarled Teahouse, cool off the fireplace, and head through it. Then head down the stairs and through the Gnarled Door.

You should find a waterfall with a ledge on the opposite side, jump to it. You’ll have to make another jump, for which you’ll need your jump spell.

After the second jump, use your Whispering Mask to get through the wall to the other side. Once there, you’ll find a green portal that can take you to the Underdark.

Zhentarim Hideout Elevator

Inside the Zhentarim hideout, you’ll find a house with a shabby door and a couple of wooden boxes near it. This is your target. Head inside and look for a hatch.

Once you go down, you’ll need to find a ladder and then some hidden stairs. Continue going through the path. On your way, you’ll see two iron gates, and then some stairs. Once you find a wooden bridge on your right, cross it.

Then look for a bear. It should be around your left. Head through the rocks next to it. On the other side, you’ll see an elevator on the left. Activate its winch and you can ride it down to Underdark.

Jumping Down the Chasm

Head to Blighted village and go down the well that’s just outside of it. Continue going through the path inside while sticking to the right wall.

You’ll eventually see a passage blocked by some spider webs. You need to cross it and climb down some rocks. Be careful while going through this area as the Spider Matriarch roams around.

You should see a huge chasm with a lot of bats. That’s your target. Use a scroll of Feather Fall to slow your descent and jump down the chasm. You’ll reach Underdark this way.
