The Ominous Altars quest in PoE 2 (Path of Exile 2) will at one point ask you to search for Freythorn above the Hunting Grounds.
Freythorn itself is a separate area, though. It just so happens to have its only entrance on the Hunting Grounds! However, finding it can be a lot more trouble than you’d expect, due to the game’s randomized maps.
In this guide, we’ll give you tips to help you find Freythorn as easily as possible!
How to Search For Freythorn Above the Hunting Grounds | Ominous Altars
As the description for the Ominous Altars quest mentions, you can reach Freythorn from the Hunting Grounds. As we also mentioned before, though, the entrance to it is completely randomized. It also changes every time you enter a new Instance.
What’s more, there are very few telltale signs to help you find it! Unlike the entrance to The Grim Tangle, for example, the entrance to Freythorn isn’t obvious until you’re extremely close to it. Even the thorny roots adorning the Hunting Grounds don’t help. They cover the entirety of the Hunting Grounds, so they’re unrelated to Freythorn entirely.
Also, despite what some players believe, Freythorn’s location on the world map doesn’t directly correlate to where the entrance is on the Hunting Grounds. Freythorn is always south of the Hunting Grounds on the world map, but its entrance could be on the northern part of the Hunting Grounds, for example.
That said, you can tell you’re on the right path once you find an area like the one shown above. It’s a thin path surrounded by rock walls covered in thorny roots. The path itself is also extremely dark, covered in the shadows of the tall trees around the path. It’s pretty noticeable once you get close, and it always leads to Freythorn.
Once you do find that path, though, simply follow it to the end and you’ll reach Freythorn. Enter the area to complete the “Search for Freythorn above the Hunting Grounds” objective for the Ominous Altars quest in PoE 2.
We hope this guide helps you find Freythorn more easily, even if it’s going to be mostly reliant on the game’s map procedural generation. If nothing else, we wish you the best of luck!
