If you wish to complete the “Bullish Embargo” quest in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will have to beat down a minotaur-like human known as Grotesque Guptauros.
Guptauros is pretty simple when it comes down to it. He has no special gimmicks in his fight besides the fact that he hits hard. However, that’s just the thing! A single well-placed attack from Guptauros can instantly kill one of your characters, with his party-wide attacks being capable of wiping your party out in a single turn.
So, to avoid that terrible fate, our guide will tell you everything you need to beat the minotaur Guptauros with ease!
How to Beat Guptauros the Minotaur | Bullish Embargo Quest
Since the “Bullish Embargo” quest is relatively early in Metaphor: ReFantazio, your potential strategy against the minotaur-looking Grotesque Guptauros is fairly limited. As such, the best Archetypes to use are Seeker, Warrior, and Knight. Do not bring any Healers or Mages, as they will enrage the Guptauros and make the fight harder than it should be!
When it comes to the party composition, you want to ensure that you have at least 1 Knight and 1 Warrior. Your third character can be a second Knight for extra damage and tanking or a Seeker for buffing with Tarukaja. Personally speaking, though, we recommend 2 Knights and 1 Warrior.
Despite being unable to bring Healers and Mages, it’s a good idea to level up the Healer Archetype to Rank 3. This will allow you to inherit Medi, which is a party-wide heal. Having it on at least one of your characters will make the fight a lot easier! Your designated Warrior would be a solid choice for inheriting Medi here.
Inheriting Blizz from the Rank 2 Mage Archetype is also a good idea, as it will let you exploit the Guptauros’ Ice weakness. However, it’s not essential since you can exploit its Pierce weakness with regular attacks from the Knight Archetype. Still, it can help speed up the fight!
If you do decide to inherit Blizz, only do so for your Warrior and only if you already inherited Medi on at least one character. Also, if you inherit Blizz and Medi on the same character, be careful managing your MP and prioritize healing instead of attacking.
The Battle Strategy
With the party setup part done, it’s now time to go over the actual strategy you should employ during the fight!
Your main focus during the battle itself will be to exploit the Guptauros’ Pierce weakness with your Knights. The “Jump Thrust” Synthesis Skill enabled by pairing a Knight and a Warrior will be your main source of damage. Of course, you can also just use regular Lance weapon attacks as well.
Aside from attacking, make sure to use Medi often to keep your entire party’s HP maxed out. Use items if you have to, but just ensure that your party is always healed!
You should also have one of your Knights move to the back row and use Knight’s Proclamation when possible. This Knight should also Guard after using Knight’s Proclamation. That will allow them to tank the Guptauros’ attacks, helping keep your party alive.
Speaking of the Guptauros’ attacks, watch out when you see him power up and end his turn without attacking! Move everyone to the back row and Guard when it happens, or you’ll most likely end up with at least one dead character.
Alternatively, you can fully cancel out his attack buff by using Tinned Torpors if you have enough. Remember, buffs and debuffs stack up to 3 times in this game!
Other than that, the Guptauros doesn’t change its strategy at all throughout the whole fight. Just keep blasting it with Jump Thrust and Pierce attacks while ensuring that your party is fully healed and you should win. So, that’s all you need to know to beat the Grotesque Guptauros minotaur boss in Metaphor: ReFantazio!
