Willow – a “pyromaniac” character and can be unlocked when you reach 160 XP.

  • Pros:
    • starts with her lighter, which is basically like a torch
    • immune to fire damage
    • gains sanity around fire
    • resistant to overheating in summer
    • can summon Bernie that turns into big monstrous teddy bear once Willow goes insane
  • Cons:
    • becomes frozen easier as clothing insulation doesn’t work that well on her

Wolfgang – a Strongman who is beyond proud of his might and is unlocked when you reach 320 XP.

  • Pros:
    • his favorite food is cooked potato which is fairly easy to mass-produce.
    • when he reaches 220-300 Hunger, the following buffs are given:
    • 1.0x – 1.25x speed
    • 1.25x – 2.0x damage
    • 1.5x – 3.0x hunger drain
    • 200 – 300 max HP
  • Cons:
    • suffers 10% higher sanity drain
    • high-maintenance food intake
    • damage decreases the bigger team you have
    • when he has 0-105 Hunger, he will be nerfed to having:
      • 0.9 – 1.0x speed
      • 1.0x – 1.5x hunger drain
      • 150 – 200 max HP

    • can eat gears to restore a lot of stats, also increases max stats
    • can be overcharged by lightning; once overcharged, the following buffs are gained:
    • 1.5x movement speed
    • continuously emits a small radius of light
    • immune to Freezing
    • ignores food penalties when eating stale or spoiled food
  • Cons
    • when the character dies, max stats are reset
    • takes damage when wet or hit by rain
    • needs Wickerbottom’s help to be constantly overcharged

Wickerbottom – an old but highly intelligent librarian that you can unlock once you reach 1280 XP

  • Pros:
    • she can craft books with powerful effects
    • one of the only two characters that can read the books
    • can make recipes without their specific machines
    • can continuously overcharge WX-78
  • Cons:
    • takes less nutrition from stale and spoiled food
    • cannot sleep or use the tent

Woodie – a Canadian Lumberjack who loves chopping trees; he is unlocked with 1600 XP

  • Pros:
    • beard provides winter insulation
    • starts with infinite axe durability
    • chops faster and more efficiently than other characters
    • has a higher chance of spawning Treeguards
    • can transform into three other forms:
      • Weregoose
      • Weremoose
      • Werebeaver
  • Cons:
    • full moon transforms him randomly
    • not the best at anything he does

Wes – a fragile French mime that communicates using pantomimes

  • Pros:
    • can craft balloons that have different uses depending on which one you need while in combat
  • Cons:
    • overheats and freezes easier
    • no audible warnings
    • takes longer to mine, chop, hammer, etc.
    • hounds will chase Wes more than other characters

Maxwell – the antagonist of the game whose playstyle revolves around his sanity

  • Pros:
    • regenerates 6.75 sanity per minute
    • has the ability to craft shadow puppets that can do respective tasks
    • shadow puppets last forever unless damaged by NPCs
    • one of the best wood gatherers
  • Cons:
    • Low max HP

Wigfrid – a performance artist acting out a role of a Valkyrie who can be unlocked when reaching 1920 XP

  • Pros:
    • restores Sanity and Health while fighting
    • can craft battle spears
    • Gains inspiration while g
  • Cons:
    • only eats meat
    • teaches bad habits
    • allows you to tank with no repercussions
    • not recommended for beginners

Webber – a child that lives inside a spider who failed to eat him a long time ago

  • Pros:
    • can befriend spiders
    • gives the ability of spider gadgets
    • can eat monster foods without normal negative effects
    • grows a beard that can be shaved for silk
  • Cons:
    • bunnyman, pigs, catcoons are more aggressive towards Webber
    • can’t befriend the mobs mentioned above

Winona – factory worker who doesn’t like laziness and things from higher society

  • Pros:
    • crafts faster when consuming hunger
    • can dodge 1st hit of Charlie
    • can craft the following gadgets:
    • Catapult: AoE ranged turret
    • Spotlight: small light radius
    • Generator: fuels gadgets and uses nitre as fuel
    • G.E.M.erator: fuels gadgets and uses any gem as fuel
  • Cons:
    • crafts slower than normal if less than 50 hunger

Warly – a Culinarian that cooks exclusive recipes and can be obtained when you reach 2560 XP

  • Pros:
    • his crockpots make cooking 20% faster
    • certain foods are unique to Warly
    • can make spices that can be added to food
  • Cons:
    • cannot eat non-crockpot foods
    • gains less nutrition from eating the same food within 2 days
    • 1.2x hunger drain

Wortox – a playful Imp that was once a forest creature without a care in the world until he gained a terrible curse

  • Pros:
    • gains a soul when a mob dies near him
    • can eat souls for 18.75 hunger
    • dropping a soul for AoE healing between 13-20
    • utilize souls to teleport anywhere on the screen
    • can hold mobs in inventory
  • Cons:
    • food is less than half effective with Wortox
    • bunnymen, pigs, and catcoons are aggressive towards him
    • can only hold 20 souls

Wormwood – a friendly animated plant who has a green thumb

  • Pros:
    • has a crafting tab
    • Immune to hostile weeds in farm plots
    • can farm living logs easily
    • can plant seeds outside of farming turf
    • can use fertilizers that will grant the following:
      • 1.2x speed modifier
      • 1.2x hunger drain
      • automatically tend planted crops
  • Cons:
    • cannot heal from food
    • can only heal through items and effects

Wurt – a young Merm girl who vows to bring Mermfolk back to glory

  • Pros:
    • can eat goodies
    • easily befriend Merms
    • walks 30% faster on marsh turf
    • gains 3.3 sanity per min when keeping a fish in her inventory
    • fish held survive 4x longer
    • can read Wickerbottom’s books for sanity gain or loss
    • can build the following Merm structures:
      • Merm Flortifications: spawns a royal Merm guard
      • Merm House: spawns a normal Merm
      • Royal Tapestry: spawns Merm King
  • Cons:
    • Cannot eat meat or meat dishes
    • pigs are aggressive towards Wurt
    • cannot trade with pigking
    • loses 4.4 sanity per minute when holding dead fish

Walter – a cheerful but odd boy who is only afraid of one thing: getting hurt.

  • Pros:
    • has a slingshot weapon
    • has an unkillable pet dog with 9 inventory slots
    • can craft a camper’s tent
    • loses no sanity from any sanity auras
    • gains sanity if there are more than 5 trees nearby
  • Cons
    • takes extra 10 damage from bees
    • loses sanity when taking damage (-1 health = -2 sanity)
    • does not gain sanity from equipment but can lose sanity when using certain equipment
    • slingshot fire rate
