The Bulwark class in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is unique in that it carries a shield, but a lot of players feel that its unique blocking ability makes it harder to learn how to parry.

For some players, the timing can feel off when compared to other classes. Usually, it’s due to accidentally holding the parry button longer than intended by the game. This ends up making the Bulwark pull up his shield to block instead of parrying, which is definitely annoying…

In this guide, we’ll give you tips and tricks you can use to master the Perfect Parry technique as a Bulwark!

How To Parry With Bulwark Guide

Weapon Defence

The first thing to note when trying to Perfect Parry with the Bulwark class in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is to pick the right weapon. Pay attention to the Defence classification listed on your melee weapon of choice. There are 3 different categories:

  • Block – Weapons in this category have no Perfect Parry window, but make up for it with increased overall strength. For our purposes, ignore these weapons. You can’t parry with them, after all!
  • Balanced – Gives you a standard Perfect Parry window. Harder to parry with than Fencing, but with better stats. A solid choice.
  • Fencing – If you’re focused on parrying, this is your best pick. Weapons in this category generally have lower stats than similar weapons, but they have bigger Perfect Parry windows. That means it’s easier to land parries.
Chapter Banner Trial

Once you’ve got your Balanced or Fencing weapon of choice picked out, we recommend going to the Chapter Banner Trial for the Bulwark. This trial has a group of weak Tyranids and a single Tyranid Warrior. Take out the weaker foes and let your ally be incapacitated so that you can fight the Tyranid Warrior alone.

Perfect Parry Practice and Bulwark Tips

Regular parry

You can take as long as you want in the Trial. As long as your ally is incapacitated and the weaker Tyranids are dead, you can stay to practice your Perfect Parry as much as you want. Practice makes perfect!

This Tyranid Warrior only uses melee attacks, so they’re perfect for practicing the Perfect Parry timing. To parry regular attacks, you want to time your Parry as soon as you see the Tyranid Warrior try to attack. For attacks with a blue glow, you want to delay the Parry input slightly. You want to Parry once their attack is about to land. This is because attacks with blue glows are a tad slower than regular ones.

Blue glow parry

The one Bulwark-specific thing to keep in mind while trying to Perfect Parry is to avoid holding the Parry button. If you press it for too long, you’ll assume a blocking stance with your shield. Some players find success by double-tapping the Parry button, but it’s not really necessary. On the upside, you might end up blocking attacks as a Bulwark if you input the Parry early.

With all that said, now you should know everything you need to be able to successfully Perfect Parry whenever you play as the Bulwark class in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Mastering this technique is going to be heavily reliant on practicing it, but it should become second nature over time!

Pair your mastery of Perfect Parries with our recommended Bulwark build and you should have no issues tearing through every Operation in the game.
