Starting Region

After creating your character, the first thing that you have to do is choose the region in which you will start. There are multiple starting regions in Pax Dei, and the game allows you to pick the one you want.

Most regions in this game are going to be the same, as resources are pretty evenly divided. It is important to consider the population within a certain area, and Pax Dei shows you this when you are choosing your starting location.

It’s normally better to start off in lower populated areas as there will be fewer people fighting over resources.

Resources

The whole game revolves around resources in one way or another. As soon as you spawn in, the first thing you will need to do is start gathering resources. Items like tree branches and sticks are useful resources that can help you get started. Later on, you can start crafting tools and get your wood through trees.

Different resources in this game will require different methods of acquiring them. While wood can be acquired by cutting down trees, resources like iron ore must be mined. You will need resources all throughout your time in Pax Dei.

Crafting

Pax Dei has a total of 16 crafting skills called Professions. Your Profession level in this game shows your proficiency in crafting items under that Profession. So for example, your level in Armor Smithing will tell you what your mastery is in crafting armor. The higher the Profession level, the better you get at crafting items that fall within that Profession.

Building

Building is an integral part of Pax Dei’s gameplay, and being familiar with it is very important.

Before you can start building, you will need to place a plot. The plot will show you and other players what area is your base. You can not build on other players’ plots in this game. Placing a plot will also help you keep track of your base’s location.

With your plot in place, you can start building however you like. You can get pretty creative with how you want your base to be, and as you unlock more structures and get more resources, you can make your base even better.

Early on, your primary focus should be on getting structures that are necessary in the early game. You do not need to have a full roof over your base or even have fences, as these are not essential in the early game. Structures that help you progress are far more important.

NPCs

One of the most interesting aspects about Pax Dei has to be the lack of NPCs. Generally, games like Pax Dei will have NPCs that can help you out or provide some guidance. This game has none, and any person you run into is an enemy. The only exceptions to this are your friends or other online players in your world.

Combat

Combat isn’t as important in Pax Dei as crafting or building, but it is still good to be familiar with it as there are plenty of hostiles in this game. On top of that, the game has a combat progression system where you can learn combat skills and improve your overall combat ability.

The combat in this game is pretty basic, and at times, a bit clunky. Fighting groups of enemies is extremely difficult, and you should focus on isolating enemies and taking them on 1v1.
