Monster Hunter World: Everything You Should Do Before Starting Iceborne

Into the icy world we go!

Monster Hunter World was released over five years ago. At this time, Capcom has added a lot of new stuff to the game. There is much more to do now than there was when the game was first released.

As more and more players get through the game, many players will want to try the additional content the game has to offer. Iceborne is the game’s first expansion released back in 2019.

The expansion was released more than a year after the game’s initial release and is meant to be played after you finish the main game.

This means that there are certain things all players should make sure to complete before they venture into the Iceborne expansion.

In this guide, we will look at what you need to do before you start your journey in Iceborne.

Everything You Should Do Before Starting Iceborne

Monster Hunter World Monster

Before starting the Iceborne expansion, it is essential that you have the right late-game armor and equipment.

The expansion is meant to be played after the main game, so your character’s gear and equipment need to match that. Iceborne also introduces more upgrades for your armor set and weapons.

Completing your event quests can also help a lot before starting Iceborne. Event quests in Monster Hunter World give you access to a lot of unique items that can’t be earned elsewhere.

We also recommend that you take on the Kulve Taroth quest before diving into Iceborne. This quest is a multiplayer quest that can be played in a large online lobby. Kulve Taroth gives you access to loot that can be upgraded in the Iceborne DLC.

Farming the right armor and equipment

Gear sets

The beginning of Iceborne can be hard for a lot of people as the monsters you face might feel very strong. Having the right gear will make it easier for you to face and defeat these monsters.

As you progress through the world you will find a lot of upgrades that can help you improve your armor. There are a lot of upgrades in Iceborne for late-game equipment from the main game.

Completing event quests

Event quests are a big part of Monster Hunter World, and they give you access to unique and useful gear. Certain event quests in Monster Hunter World are especially useful to complete before Iceborne due to what they give to the player.

Event quests

The “Every Hunter’s Dream” event quest gives players access to the Wyvern Ignition Greatsword. This greatsword is a must-have before starting Iceborne. It is one of the best greatswords in the game and really fun to use.

Jagras

“The Greatest Jagras” is also another very useful event quest to complete before Iceborne. The Jagras is one of the first monsters you face in Monster Hunter World, so the monster itself isn’t special. The special thing about this fight is what it drops.

In the middle of the fight, the Jagras will randomly spit out decorations that you can pick up. The decorations you farm from the Jagras can be used in the main game or the Iceborne expansion.

Kulve Taroth

Kulva Taroth

Kulve Taroth is a massive elder dragon that you can take on as a multiplayer quest. The fight is meant to be played in a big online lobby. With so many new players and players coming back to the game, now is a good time to take on Kulve Taroth.

The fight is a very fun experience and all Monster Hunter World players should give it a go. On top of that, Kulve Taroth also provides players with a lot of loot upon defeating it. This loot is good to have in Iceborne as the expansion allows you to upgrade this loot.

You can get through the expansion without everything mentioned above but your experience might not be as enjoyable.

A lot of quests and missions in Monster Hunter World are fun due to the challenges they impose. Facing them before Iceborne also ensures you are not overlevel and the fight doesn’t become too easy.
