Dave the Diver offers support for many input methods, be they keyboards or a good old controller.
This surprisingly charming game tasks you with exploring the depths of the sea and managing a sushi restaurant! It’s fairly relaxing, so you might want to pick up a controller and lay back when playing it.
In this article, we’ll go over how Dave the Diver handles its controller support and give you troubleshooting tips if you have any issues.
Controller Support Details for Dave the Diver
Dave the Diver has full controller support according to Steam, which means that the game can be completely played from start to finish using a controller.
This is guaranteed to work when you’re using Steam’s built-in Steam Input feature, which offers support for nearly every controller out there!
As such, it’s highly recommended that you enable Steam Input when you want to play Dave the Diver.
To enable Steam Input, click on “Steam” in the top left corner of the Steam client and then select “Settings”.
Then, click on the “Controller” tab and make sure you enable Steam Input for every type of controller.
Additionally, right-click on Dave the Diver in your Steam library and select “Properties”, as shown in the example image above.
Now, click on the “Controller” tab and make sure to set the Override to Enabled Steam Input.
You should now be ready to face the depths of Dave and bring your sushi restaurant to new heights! However, what can you do if you have issues with controller support?
Troubleshooting Controller Support
The first thing to try is an obvious one: launch any other game and try using your controller on it. If it works, then your controller is fine and the issue is with Dave the Diver itself.
If that’s the case, you might want to instead disable Steam Input for Dave the Diver. You can do so by just setting Steam Input support to “Disabled” in the game’s properties, just like how we enabled it before.
This is usually not recommended, but it just might help you! After all, all computers behave quite differently.
You might also want to try setting your controller to an alternate mode, as well. For example, some 8BitDo controllers can change between Xbox and Switch modes.
Certain controllers will only work when set to specific modes, and this varies for every controller and PC combination. It’s quite a headache, but try the different modes to see if any of them works for you!
If nothing works, however, you might just need to wait for the developers to release patches. This is especially true if you’re playing on a Mac, as controller support is very limited on those systems.
Sometimes things are out of our control but the developers seem to be passionate about making Dave the Diver a great game, so they release frequent updates!
