As with any survival game, there are lots of things you need to pay attention to when playing Smalland: Survive the Wilds. After all, the game features a massive world with tons of areas to discover and creatures to encounter.
Suffice it to say, surviving your first day in the in-game world can be tough, albeit not impossible. Luckily, it’s not as tough as other survival games out there, but it still offers a decent challenge.
In this guide, we’ll teach you how you can survive the very first day of your adventure.
Tips to Survive Your First Day in Smalland: Survive the Wilds
You can play Smalland with up to 10 players in a multiplayer section. This will make survival a whole lot easier since you can delegate certain tasks to certain players.
However, this can prove to be quite a challenge when playing solo. To help you with that, you want to consider these tips:
Pick Up Every Resource You Find Along the Way
There are lots of resources you can come across during your playthrough. During your first few hours of the game, you’ll want to pick up resources since you’ll be using them to craft a bunch of stuff later on.
Seek Advice from Owl Effigies
You will also come across owl effigies throughout your adventure. These wooden sculptures will provide you with useful pieces of advice that you can use throughout the game.
The best part is that you can access all of the hints and tips you’ve learned from owl effigies via your Compendium.
Simply open your inventory and head to the Compendium section to reveal the tips that you’ve obtained from owl effigies.
Craft Some Armor
Armor will play a major part in your survival. After all, you’ll eventually come face to face with enemy creatures throughout your playthrough.
Two of the earliest armor types you can come across are the Padded and Light armor pieces. Each of them offers decent protection and some other stats for very cheap material costs.
To craft them, simply head over to Herne and ask him to craft armor pieces for you.
Craft Tools
Aside from armor pieces, you also want to craft tools that you can use for various purposes. These include the hatchet, club, builder’s hammer, and torch.
Unlike armor, you can just craft them straight from your character.
Simply open the menu and hover over to the Crafting section. Just make sure to gather the required materials to start crafting.
Create a Campfire
Once nighttime falls, your surrounding will start to get colder. While some armor pieces will provide you with a bit of protection from the cold, that won’t be enough to make it through the night.
What you can do during this time is to make a campfire using 2x Wood and 2x Resin. To do so, simply equip the builder’s hammer and choose the Campfire from the Interactive section. Afterward, place it on the ground.
The best part about the campfire is that you can also use it to cook food. So if you find yourself hungry, you can just cook food at the campfire to replenish your hunger meter.
Craft a Bed
Lastly, you’ll want to craft a bed that you can use to set your respawn point. This means that you will respawn on the bed you last interacted with in the event that you die.
Similar to the campfire, equip your builder’s hammer and choose Simple Bed from the Interactive section. Afterward, place it on the spot you prefer. You will need 2x Fiber and 6x Wood for it.
You can then interact with the bed to activate it as your spawn point. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use it to sleep yet. The game will prompt you that you need to be sheltered in order to sleep.
This means that you need to build a simple base with a few walls and a roof. Once you’re done, you can then place the bed and interact with it.
