Genshin Impact: A Short Encounter With a Rare Bird Hidden Quest Guide

The new Sumeru region in the 3.0 update features a handful of unique animals that weren’t available in the previous regions. A few good examples include the Rishboland Tiger and the Spinocrocodile. However, not all new animals are hostile, as there are a few docile ones such as the Dusk Bird.

Talking about the Dusk Bird, this one is actually part of a hidden quest called A Short Encounter with a Rare Bird. If you haven’t done this quest yet, then this guide is for you.

A Short Encounter With a Rare Bird Hidden Quest Guide in Genshin Impact

This quest is one of the two quests you need to complete in order to unlock the Sumeru Monster Ecology Survey achievement. The other one is the “Where are the Fierce Creatures?” quest.

To start this quest, you want to head over to the waypoint that you can find northeast of Caravan Ribat. Then, once you get there, you want to make your way southwest until you reach the Ruins of Dahri.

There should be some Shroombars here that you need to shoot. Doing this will trigger a cutscene with an unnamed NPC.

After the cutscene is over, talk to the NPC to trigger the quest. He will then task you with hunting Dusk Birds which you can find south of Apam Woods.

Hunting Dusk Birds

According to the NPC, these birds won’t appear when it’s raining. As such, you need to change the weather to sunny first via the Varuna Contraption south of the Statue of the Seven in Apam Woods.

Once it’s a sunny weather, you can find a few of these birds perching on top of some dead tree trunk. Kill one Dusk Bird to catch it, and doing so will spawn a number of Eremites. Take care of the enemies and the NPC you met earlier who is called Shefket will appear.

However, he will tell you that those are some low-quality feathers and will ask you to capture Dusk Birds that are in the north instead. Head north until you arrive at The Dark Valley Domain and start your hunt in the area.

After catching one, Forest Rangers will appear telling you to stop the hunt. They say that Shefket is nothing but a fraud, and they are planning to catch him for illegal hunting. At this point, your goal will be to catch Shefket.

To do so, teleport to the waypoint in the southern part of Apam Woods and then make your way toward east. Hunt one last Dusk Bird to cause Shefket to appear alongside some Treasure Hoarders. Deal with the enemies and finish the conversation with Shefket and the rangers.

Afterward, you’ll then complete the quest and unlock the Sumeru Monster Ecology Survey achievement.
