The newest The Curse of the Moon Quay update has been released, and players are treated to a whole new island in the game known as the Moon Quay island. It’s a small island that features the Queen of Moon Quay as well as a handful of monkeys.

Not only that, but you can also find a handful of unique items in this area. If you don’t know how to find and explore this area, then this guide is for you.

How to Find and Explore the Moon Quay Island in Don’t Starve Together

The Moon Quay island is actually pretty easy to find. If you have knowledge about the map’s generation process, then looking for this new area should be pretty straightforward.

Since the map is a square, all you need to do is explore the ocean on a square until you eventually come across the island. You’ll be able to know that you’re heading in the right direction when pirates come to attack you. This is because pirate raids typically occur within a 200-tile radius from the island, which means the island is pretty close if this happens.

As you get close to the island, make sure to position your boat away from the cannons as they can easily destroy it. You will notice that the island is inhabited by Powder Monkeys which can be rather scary when there are lots of them.

So if you don’t want to deal with them, you can instead make a landing during the winter or at night. What makes these Powder Monkeys annoying is the fact that they will steal items from your inventory. Specifically, they will go for the very first item on your hotbar. Luckily, you can counter this by placing a useless item on your hotbar.

Dealing with the Inhabitants

When dealing with the monkeys, you want to make sure there are empty slots in your inventory. This is because killing a monkey will drop a cursed trinket that will automatically place itself in your hotbar. This trinket will stack, and the more stacks you get, the more items you will lose in your hotbar.

Once you get 10 stacks, you will transform into a monkey. On the bright side, this will cause the inhabitants of the island to be friendly toward you. You can remove this curse by giving a banana to the monkey queen.

Each banana will cause the queen to remove four stacks of cursed trinket, and once the curse is removed, will also grant you a right of passage. This will cause the monkeys on the island to become neutral for roughly 4 minutes.

If you have no cursed trinkets, you can still give bananas to the queen. Doing so will cause the queen to give you 3 blueprint sets: one for the cannon and cannonballs, another for the docks and dock piling, and one for the new turf.

Make sure to learn a set of blueprints first before getting another set, as you won’t be able to do so otherwise. The good part is that the Powder Monkeys won’t be able to steal these blueprints.

You can also find the Unnatural Portal just near the queen. This will spit out various items on a constant basis. I would highly suggest clearing out the island by destroying the monkey huts or at least focusing on the ones near the monkey queen. This way, you can farm the portal without any distractions.
